So for those who don't know, I inherited my cruiser from its original owner: my grandfather. I have been going through old things trying to help my parents clean up and we managed to find a treasure trove of documents and random cruiser stuff in my grandfathers things.

It turns out that he was quite an organized, anal retentive, packrat and a bit of a closet cruiser nerd.

I now have all of the original documentation including:

  • Original Window Sticker
  • Copy of check, receipt, and invoice including all options listed
  • Original Title
  • All original flyers and documentation, including original brochures.
  • Original TEQ 12v trouble light and touch-up paint
  • And most importantly, a stack that includes every single receipt for any service done or modification added, including his notes on why the service was done and what his requests were.
This is a huge find for me as it gives me tons of insight into how and why he chose and bought this truck. It also defines 100% how much of an anal retent he was. He made the Toyota guys constantly go over that truck with a fine tooth comb, and even though it lived most of its life in a heated garage he made them follow the "severe" maintenance cycle.

On to the pictures!

This is all of it spread out.

Original Window Sticker

Old school ManaFre catalogue I found in his stuff

Original sales flyers with specs on the back and marketing slicks on the front. Significantly, with the color of the FJ60 on the slick also being the color of mine.

Original invoice, showing A/C upgrade and "protective coating" whatever scam was running that time of year. You can also see here the original paperwork envelop with the metal Key Code tag inside of it.

I'm so excited to have found all of this crazy stuff. Already I've had a few good chuckles and a quiet moment of sadness, but this just helps me re-live the past a little.

I think I now need to make copies of everything for posterity, and then put it together into a "provenance" book so if I do ever get around to showing it.

So much cool stuff to dig through.

What a sweeet find.

NOW YOU MUST frame the originals and never never let someone like me get my grubby, grease covered paws on them.

Wow, seriously nice find! How's about some pics of the truck :)

Awesome find. You must be chuffed! Gonna resto?

The interior already looks like a resto. It stays under covers, so one of these days I'll have to take the covers off and take pictures. The carpet and seats are still virgin underneath.

I've been slowly working on catching it up on maintenance while trying to find a house that can accommodate my mistress since according to my wife she must sleep outside. My immediate plans and usage has just been to load the family up and go put-put-put around town on the weekends. Once I am finished going through the mechanicals, I plan on taking it out on light camping trips and such, but nothing that would endanger the body.

I mostly just want to keep it and enjoy it, but since it has been 100% garage kept, has very low mileage, and now has enough material to fill a provenance binder to the brim, so its just begging to be shown at least on the local show circuit.

Wow, sweet! As stated, frame those! Oh and if you love it, ya might wanna keep it a little south of 4K rpm!

Sweet man. We have all the same stuff. My Dad is for sure a pack rat. I have THE newspaper ad which pointed him to the dealer that he bought my cruiser from. There are pictures in my ROTM thread.

Keep that body straight. I dented mine and it hacks me off.

Hehe, that was for a thread on here about how 2F smogged cruisers were speed limited. I had to show that a properly maintained, low mileage motor can easily provide the power to get to the right side of the rainbow. The truck rarely sees over 2500 rpm in average driving.

Damn that's cool! Nice find on all the paperwork and great looking cruiser :)

Wow, what a nice truck. And nice find on the paperwork. If it were mine I wouldn't embark into any restoration. To some folks, like me, an untouched original with a little wear is more valuable than a vehicle that has undergone corrective surgery. Does the wife know how valuable the truck is? I'd offer up garage space but I'm in NC.

It lives under a car cover, under a car-port so its not totally outside, but I live in the city and just don't have room for it at my house right now (its my 3rd car...) so it lives at a friends house who lives out in the county.

what a great story and a great truck as well. Your grandpa left you a gem. He'd be proud that you found this site and giving it a new life.

Very, very cool stuff! I'm a history buff and even though it's just receipts and promo items, it's a part of that truck that most people don't have. I've got the original window sticker to my 62 but that's no where near as cool as this! Thanks for sharing.

14,365 was the MSRP after A/C, dealer markups, and delivery according to the window sticker.

Funny... the high end ones go for more $ now. Talk about holding its value!

Dont touch it, just restore slowly as needed and "preserve" history.

Cheers!

Did the same man. Dented the s$&t out of the front bumper driving like a girl into one of the guards at a gas station and my ex ripped off one end cap off the back bumper. Both marks piss me off.
