I have been looking for the last few months and have pretty much made up my mind on this AC powered welder. Light fab work- racks, sliders and the like. I am trained in welding Gas/MIG/TIG and loved it when I was in school. Time to quit paying the welder and do it myself. If anyone has any comments on the Hobart 140 I would appreciate it.

TIA

Hobart has a good reputation. I bought a similar Miller machine about 10 years ago.
make sure it can accept the larger spools of wire; those little one pound reels get used up pretty fast.
Don't forget to factor in the cost of welding gas, tank etc.

The reason I got a Miller is because the folks that supply my oxygen and acetylene sell and service them.
In fact, those guys had a lot of useful information.

several comments on that one in the Starter Welder thread.

I have one. I like it.

Lots of reviews on the Northern Tool site.

I have 1. I like it.

Purchased a Hobart 175 many years ago. No issues to date.

I have one too and like it. Goo for 3/1 6" and 1/4" with multiple passes. I got a ready welder cheap for when I need toweld 1/2" material. One of the other guys does the same. HH140 has been good and reliable

Had one for a couple of years now, bought it to learn how to weld. Other than wishing I'd went a little bigger occasionally I've had no issue whatsoever with it.

Bought a 140 to start for cheap on Craigslist, then finally upgraded to the Hobart 210. The 140 will take the large spool of wire and gas without issue. Also shares a lot of parts with miller.

I had one. It was great on sheet metal. Solid machine but left me wanting for more for the thicker steel projects.
So, I sold it and bought a HH187 when prices were cut to make way for the HH190, much better. The 210 is probably even mo' betta.
I regret missing out on lightly used Miller 252 with a big bottle at less than half the new price for all...
If you really need to be able to use 110v at times, get a Miller 211 or Hobart 210MVP. You won't regret it if you intend to keep welding after a few light projects.
If you will only weld heavy stuff on occasion, the Ready Welder would be a good companion to the HH140.

trigger pulled after some delay- excited to start welding......
