Hi all

ive been a bit of a lurker on this website, sifting through the information.
I have an FJ62 3F (carb). South-African spec.

My dad was quite impressed with my FJ62 and is thinking about buying an HJ62 200 000kms (125 000 miles). it is in excellent condition.
The thing is it has an aftermarket turbo.

Does the 2H motor handle turbos well?
It is an "Alpine Developments low-pressure turbocharger " not sure most of you will know this as im in South Africa.
It has a Turbo protector [it's a mechanical device (installed under the
bonnet) which causes oil to flow through the turbo bearings for a few minutes after the engine has been switched off]

Im just a bit weary of anything not standard when it comes to engines, especially turbos.

You would do better in the diesel forum where those with actual experience lurk.

Ive never done one but I know it will not last like a factory turbo but if you keep the boost low ,watch the pyrometer and only use it when you need it ,it can give good service.
Basically the pistons are not oil cooled and are not as thick as a turbo engine piston so you cant let the combustion chamber get too hot.

Nearly all turbos are from a handfull of companies and Alpine probably buy them and make up kits like the Australian companies do.
This landcruiser you are looking at is properly termed as a HJ60 and the factory turbo is a HJ61

There are tons of 2Hs that have been turbo'd. They seem to hold up well to moderate boost levels.
I have not heard of the company you speak of, but my advise to you is to most definately run no more than 7 psi and run a exhaust gas temp gauge.

I'm in the turbo setup proyect on my 2H planning 12 PSI .. T26 turbo and custom intercooler ..

For the secure device .. is quite simple .. you don't need it ( really ) if you always ( ever ) let the turbo cool down and rpm down after a long and heavy road on it ..
