Hi everybody
I got myself an HJ61 it’s awesome but it started leaking coolant from? I don’t know I think it’s coming from the water pump. So my question are
1 how difficult is it to change the water pump?
2 or should I just have a shop do it?
3 what else should be done when in there?
4 am I missing anything else?
Sorry if this is a dumb question or if someone already asked I tried looking and didn’t find anything on it
Thank you guys for any info

. the photo is inconclusive, although those belts look super new; nice. Anything can be done, but I recommend not tackling something like this unless you have an experienced wrench turner to mentor you on the job.

your profile photo is a 70?

It's been a decade since I did my 2H water pump, but I don't recall it being particularly difficult. Just a lot of stuff to remove before you can get to it.

There is a small hole under the water pump pulley that weeps coolant when the pump is starting to fail, so look in there to see if the water pump is your problem, 'cause coolant could possibly get splashed to that spot from a hose or radiator leak.
It might be wise to have the system pressure tested- leaks on a hot engine can be hard to trace because the coolant can evaporate quickly. A pressure test on a cold engine makes leaks pretty obvious, and the weep hole in the pump will leak under pressure if it is starting to fail.

If it hasn't been done for a while, you can replace all your coolant, and while you're at that, may as well replace the thermostat, any or all manky coolant hoses, and your rad cap. And flush the radiator and engine for the heck of it...

To get at the water pump also requires removal of the fan clutch, which if it's original, probably needs to be replaced, overhauled or at the very least, inspected for proper function.

It's also a good time to replace fan belts, but judging by the picture, those look pretty good!

If it is the waterpump, it looks pretty easy to do. I usually remove the radiator for access.

Great info thanks a lot. I’ll find out for sure where it’s coming from and have the system pressure tested

if its a hj61 12ht 24 volt (i agree with roscoe its easier to take the radiator out for access) but its a not hard but a fairly long job as to take the rad out both batteries and trays have to come out, front grill undo the centre bonnet support undo the air con condenser to gain access to 2 bolts toyota decided to put in that are forward facing than the others if it still has a rear heater she will also take alot of coolant when refilling.

all the best Mark
