HJ61 Possible sensitive throttle fix

Reviving an old thread here.

When mine started jerking going over bumps etc. I thought it was the loose worn suspension, but I've change all that and it's still happening:bang: Especially off road:censor: So I'm going to have a look at that spring option.

So to those of you that originally posted here, any developments, how's your truck performing now:D

12HT/13BT direct injected engines have the sensitive throttle issue.
when off road learn to rest your foot against the kick panel and tilt your foot to accelerate.

Henry James have you got a photo of that Mazda dampener fitted to the 12ht?

I've done a bit of searching on other web sites and come up with OEM part number for these springs, they are listed as 22424B part number 22440-68150 but that's all I can get, I can't find anyone that supplies that part:bang:

I might ring Toyota parts here in WA as the number 22424B fits a lot of different vehicles :clap:

I want to try and replace them with OEM then I'll get at least 10 years happy motoring :rolleyes:

Here's what I fitted- just required fabricating a small metal bracket to mount the damper, which is adjustable and easily replaced:

That throttle dampener, picked from a 15 year old Mazda 323, has served me well for 9 years so far.
 
I think there are a lot of vehicles out there with a fuel injection rack that also have a damper. I only used the one of the wrecked Mazda because it was convenient to me at the time - basically the first car engine bay I looked at.

You could possibly also fit a damper that works both ways, or double up the dampers somehow - it seems fine-tunable in a bunch of ways.
 
Well I doubt if you could wipe the smile off my face:grinpimp::D:p

I checked out mine today to see if I had 2 springs and nope only the inside spring:bang: So I went to where I'm storing my other 12HT and that one had both springs. :clap::bounce::bounce2:

So took the front spring and put it on mine and holy s***:steer: Instant change and wow it's like driving a new truck:clap:

I must say I was that close to selling this rig, every bump on road and totally undriveable off road

So happy now
 
Hey spudman I have got to say this has been one of the most disappointing about the car I was wheelin up some steep rocky terrain and it was fricken dangerous. I was quite upset that when I checked mine it already has the double springs on so now I came across a cruiser parts place selling brand new throttle springs for the 12ht spoke to the people and they said it should make much better as the springs weaken over time. I have learned to use the hand throttle a lot though.

Don't lose faith just yet, order some new springs and see how that goes.

Can you put up a link to the place or the name and address, I'm really happy with mine, but I'd still like to buy a couple of spare springs just in case.

Yeh mate it's cruiserworld.eu also know as l&l landcruisers they are in Netherlands they do speak English there range of parts is very good even got a full axel set of cable lock equipped diffs( I have them in my car but parts very hard to get hold of) now the springs are not cheap about 25 aus each plus shipping.

I've just had my automatic gearbox's torque converter checked out. When I got the vehicle back, throttle was very stiff. Upshifting also happening a bit later than before. So I check out the kickdown cable adjustment and it's nice and tight. Gap of say 3-4mm to the "check grommet" on the cable. More than before. Slacken it off and voila, earlier shifts but very sensitive throttle, especially just when you touch the accelerator because of the slack in the kickdown cable. So the kickdown cable adjustment is partly responsible for the sensitive throttle issue. I'm going to take up the slack and try find the sweetspot.

Her spud like a few original participants pointed out here earlier this has everything to do with the governor and very little to do with the springs, I just had a massive convo with a injector shop operator of about about 30 years in the same shop doing only pumps and injectors and essentially it comes down the adjustment of the tensioning the governor and is very common.
Needless to say after looking at it I'm in the pay someone to do it for me category.
