Hello!

I have a problem with the headlights on my HJ61 and am looking for some suggestions. MY truck has the original JDM headlight lenses except for one Bosch lense on the high beam of the drivers side, that was installed by the PO. I had 2 original bulbs burn out and replaced them with 75 watt 24 volt GE bulbs (both on the drivers side). Now, the low beam is very dim, and the high beam does not work at all on the drivers side. But, the passenger side lights seem to be normally bright and work fine in low or high beam. Also, when I switch to high beam, the driver side low beam light get's very dim.

Is there some sort of grounding that needs to be done, especially with one Bosch lense mixed into the JDM originals? Suggestions? I still have the other Bosch lense from the set in a box and would like to eventually install it also. I don't understand why changing the bulbs to north american ones has affected the system so. They were just fine with the JDM bulbs, a little dim, but they all worked at least.

Would just like to see more clearly on those moonless winter nights. (actually at night in general, just a little particular about that...)

Thanks,

Hiksehi

The JDM housings (I can't remember if it is the highs or lows) are not grounded...I think that's it. I had to run black electrical tape around one set to get them to work..that's after I saw sparks flying...

Take a look at the housings. It will be pretty easy to tell that they are isolated.

I did a write up and conversion on here.

Could this be a problem with my light switch or have I screwed something up swapping in the Bosch lights. I don't know where to start looking for the problem. Help, Pete

Did you ensure the connector for the outside headlights stayed oriented the correct way? There is an adapter that clocks the pins; one position to the right I believe. If you do not re-install this connector (fits between the headlight pins, and the wiring harness) you will have very funky things happening.

I replaced my JDM highs and lows with Hella lights. Needed to insulate the high beam housings as was already mentioned. I used spray-on rubberized rocker guard and it has held up very well.
