As title states. Anyone done this? I’ve never been a fan of them and would to see them gone. Looks like some potential fill welding on some of the mounting holes?
 
You would either need to weld the holes or insert a decorative (of sorts) plastic cap in the holes.
 
I filled them with steel slugs. Then used JB weld on the backside instead of welding. glaze putty then
high fill primer then paint. What I did with the 74 rear quarter panel.

@cruiserpilot forgive my ignorance. What’s a steel slug? Where did you get them? Thanks for your input. Always appreciate it. You’ve been down this rd
 
Little round pieces left over from using punch for spot welds. This little thing, flange tool and spot weld punch.
Luckily the holes are identical to the round factory holes on BJ73 fender holes. I don't have a pic of the whole tool
