Any ideas on this one....

when I turn my hey to acc all the dash lights come on (normal) after starting the lihts should turn off. (batt, turbo and difflock lights) They turn off by themselves after running a bit. I have also noted the Voltmeter is not reading 28V as usual but 23-24V. Could this be a sticky voltage reg? or something else.....

My Dads does the same thing. His has a turbo timer I guessed this might have something to do with it by messing around with the stock wiring? I know his voltage reading is lower than mine also. Someone on here probably knows exactly why. ?

Some diesels get the information that the truck is running via an output voltage signal from the alternator. The "I am running" signal should extinguish the lights... so check your alternator voltage and excitation. Sometimes just running the revs up a bit to get the alternator charging will have the right effect.

In my experience, alternator brushes mysteriously need replacement in the winter months at about 180K to 220K km intervals ;) Kind of like spark plug leads on those who are less fortunate and still run gasoline.... ;p

hth, and as always - ymmv
