I have a 86 HJ60 and my fuel tank has started to leak since I did some work on the straps that hold it up. I am going to take the tank out and see if a local rad shop can repair it or if it is possible replace the tank. As HJ60 spare tanks are rare around here in Saskatchewan I have a bettter chance of findia tank from a FJ60. My question is is a fuel tank from a FJ60 the same as HJ 60 tank and can it be used in my truck and will all the lines and wires hook up the same. Also if anyone has advice on the best process to remove the old tank is appreciated. Thanks.

Fuel tanks are the same,so just swap it for a fj60 tank.
Take away the spare tire carrier frame member, disconect all hoses, disconect the fuel sender cable(hatch inside the cargo bay floor) and lower it down. Its a 2:banana: job,as long everything is not rusted solid. You don't even have to swap the fuel sender,or use the best one of the two.

I can confirm that- I have a diesel tank in mine and it's identical

My tank seems to hold 70 liters and not 90: I tried to drive like it contains 90 liters but it doesnt start on air.

here is a picture with another picture of the hoses, cant go wrong but i have seen some diferences with the hose on the top front side of the tank.

the evap line is prob. rusted and I replaced with 3 meter rubber hose in U-shape (you only need it when you roll-over, well thats only like once every year :) )

HJ ..Thanks for taking the time to post those pictures and explaination it is appreciated. Yesterday I just picked up a tank from what I was told was a FJ60. As I never had my tank out, or read HJ post till this evening I did not know that the tank I had to replace mine was different than the one in my truck ... the one I received had a pump in the tank, my Hj60 does not. There was no line on the corner for the fuel. There was a fuel pump inside the tank so I extracted the fuel pump and cut it off and then extended the larger of the two lines going into the tank so it would reach the bottom of the tank, and then ran my fuel line off of that, also along the line to the engine I put a inline fuel filter as I was not sure if there was some type of filter inside the tank. One thing I had to do to remove the tank was to drop the stableizer bar and remove the grease nipples on my emu suspension so I could get the tank out. This job took me 6 hours, as in my part of Canada things do get rusty. But even if the truck was bran spankin new I could never get it out and in in 2 hours, thats impressive.. I am happy that this job is done and appreciate all the comments everyone. Thanks again. Cheers

FJ62 has the fuel pump in the tank...maybe you got a FJ62 tank.

I am not sure if certain years of fj60 had fuel pumps in their tanks or not. but if you say the 62 has a fuelpump in the tank then I think thats what I was working with .. Thanks for adding to my ongoing education in the wonderful world of Landcruisers. I am sure this is not going to be the last repair I will be doing on this truck so every bit of info is of great help. I am just glad I have this project behind me. Now I see what looks like my front wheel bearings are leaking :meh: here we go again !
