A 60 series pump should work well, the trusty old 2h came in the 60 series with the power steering pump so it should fit without too many problems.. I have previously looked into this and from what i have read I believe it bolts on down low through the timing gear cover on the drivers side (right hand drive) you would need the lower pulley from a 60 series (has grooves for the other belts see pic) as well as the timing cover bolts that go through the pump from the 60 as they are longer.

You Lucky bastard, you got a 40 series ps box!!! Wish I had one.

The colum on a power stearing model has the same out side tube but the inside sharft from the stearing wheel to the rag/ flex joint above the box is about 50mm shorter.. So if you find one get the colum as well.

If you locate a 1980 or 81 HJ60 they came with the same engine mounts as the 47 series, and the RH engine mount is integral to mounting the pump. So, to have a 2H power steering pump mounted just by bolting in, you need to find an early HJ60 with power steering at the wreckers and obtain the engine mount and pump. Your harmonic balancer also has to have accommodation for the vane pump's drive belt, so you might want to pull that triple pulley as well.

That be the later braket, after 11 1984, it is the same as a HJ75, i got one of them but wont fit. I have to have a look at an 84 model tommrow. When i get the right one i will put a picky up.

I pulled this engine straight from my HJ45, obviously it received an engine transplant at some stage in its life. I have no clue what the engine came out of. If what your saying about the bracket is correct, I will have to do some measuring where the pump bolts up and source a pump to suit the bracket. Or source another bracket to suit a pump.:hhmm: I will cross that bridge when I get to it, thanks for the info, very interesting.

One important detail in terms of using the 2H with stock power steering pump in an HJ47: the radiator's lower inlet needs to be modified to clear the pump pulley. I had this done when I had my rad re-cored. The inlet neck needs to be angled 45˚ to the right, at about the 2 o'clock position.

Also, do not expect a hugely powerful power steering system with the Toyota stock set up. There is some boost, but it is not a 'spin the wheel with one finger' sort of thing.

Thanks again for the info, any assistance will be the better then the manual steering setup I currently have. A friend of mine owns a 60 series wagon, I suspect it will be similar to how that drives being that they run the same gear. It drives heaps better then a 45 with manual steering thats for sure, especially offroad. :steer:

Glad to be of help to you.

I think that if you want a set up with a similar feel to the 60 series with power steering, you might want to consider doing the 60 series steering box conversion on the 47. Part of the reason that the power steering effect is modest associates to the extended 40 series linkages which absorb some of the energy used to turn the wheel.

Your laughing , if that setup came out of your rig that is the later braket from 84on 60 and HJ75 you can use use the later pump and idler braket off a hj75.
