I have a 1974 HJ45LP. I restored it many years ago but came across the frame ID plate. I am familiar with FJ40 install locations but this one does not appear to have gone in the same place. Was it originally installed on driver inside fender? I am having a new one reproduced and want it in the correct location. Thanks

The move to the fender in the mid sixties around the time a heater blower was added to the firewall on that side.the firewall plaques were held on with four machine screws nuts and lock washers. I know my 68 it's on the fender held on with four sheet metal screws. At some point that was reduced to two sheet metal screws. 78 moved back to the firewall. This time with pop rivets. Can't help but think the DOT had a part in the plaque moving back on the tub and not held on with screws. That may have been the case on the A pillar plaque starting 3/69. That always used pop rivets.

would i be correct in saying a FJ55 had the Door Jamb Plate Riveted to the Door itself , not the pillar post ?

78 was the first time a plaque under the hood used rivets. Originally the one on the firewall used machine screws. The fender plaques were always sheet metal screws. Appears the 76 is the change from four to two screws. I have a 10/75 76 model that only uses two screws.
