I just orderd the SOA kit from ruff stuff specialties and now I need to figure out how to get a high steering setup. I have searched all over and found two options for pre 79 40s.

One is converting the knuckels over to FJ60 or 79+ 40.

The second one is this that I found is these high steer arms from jtoutfiters.

High Steer Steering Arm - JTOutfitters

Is the kit from JT outfitters ok? Going to hold up?

Thanks

Going to the larger, later stud pattern knuckles would be your best option as this would net you disc brakes as well.

Thanks for the reply poser.

I do know that is the best option but unfortunately I all ready went the wrong way and already bought a brand new disk brake conversion kit for the front (Ones that use Chevy calipers and an adapter plate). Wish I just would have went 60 axles dang it!

Well, your the pro on this forum so if you really think I should bite the bullet, spend the extra cash, try and track down some knuckles or 60 axles then I will. :-\

Call Luke at 4X4 labs at 530-477-0140 or 4X4labs.com. He should still be doing pre-79 high steer. He did two sets for me last year for my '77 and my buddies '78. We have had ZERO problems and have two Rubicon trips with it.

Awesome. I will call them now!

Don't give up. Luke's a nice guy, very helpful and I think you'll like his stuff.

So after a s*** ton of research I decided to get rid of these knuckles and covert over to the mini truck knuckles.

Will the 79+ high steer kits work on the mini truck knuckles? I found something saying 81 FJ40 arms fit onto the mini truck knuckles so I am asuming it will work.

Yes they will.

'Labs arms are still your best bet in my opinion. Luke will set them up for your vehicle. He doesn't use cookie cutter manufacturing. You can do the "Frombe" thing or keep the arms in front if you prefer.

Still going to get 4x4labs high steer. But now i will have the added strength of the mini truck knuckels.

Do the "frombe" arms clear the backing plate to caliper brake line? I been wondering if folks have modified the brake lines or if they fit fine and this is a non issue.

Cheers
