High pitched whistle when revving engine (1 Viewer)

When I rev the engine up past 3k-4k rpm while parked, or open up the throttle on the road you can hear a momentary high pitched whistle sound. If I had to guess I'd say it's coming from the intake, but I don't know. Any thoughts on what to look for? Or is this normal for FJ80's? (It's my first)

I have the same thing and after searching and reading threads when I first got my 80, it's normal.

General consensus says the culprit is generally somewhere between headers and muffler in the exhaust system but that it's normal with OEM equipment.

Do you have cogged belts (non-Toyota)? Those whine with a revving engine.

I don't actually know. Just got the truck two weeks ago.

Thanks Turkish, that's really good to know. I was afraid someone was going to tell me I had spun main bearings or something horrible like that.

This whistle is normal.. I have had it on all of my FZJ engines in Colombia and here in the states.

It's the turbo.......

very normal, sounds like TURBO blower na? even there is none, that noise is coming from the intake air, I love it makes me think I have a TURBO.

my 91 did that.....i kinda liked the turbo sound....although it is more like the gas cap noticing how fast the tank is emptying

Not sure if the '97 has a cold start injector...? I have a '92 and when I cleaned mine and replaced everything I didn't have a good seal. When I revved the engine I got the loud whistle. I racked my brain trying to figure it out, popped the hood and could clearly see/hear that my gasket for the cold start injector was shot.
