I've got '97 80 series with an intermittent high Idle condition, with an auto transmission that doesn't go into over-drive during these high Idle conditions. This leads me to believe that this is an engine temp sensor issue, as the ECU is preventing the transmission from going I to OD. As it thinks the motor is it yet up to "temp". I haven't run a diagnostic yet, for the check engine light. Would anyone happen to know what the fault would be?

Anyone else have any thoughts on my train of thought?

Thanks

I had a similar problem in my 92, where one of my temperature sensor failed and tricked my engine into running rich cold/startup condition all the time even after warmed up. I believe I swapped both sender and sensor and the condition went away. My idle would easily break 1,500 in park.
