Hello all in the house, I have searched the site for a similar post but did not find any.

please my LC 2000 year model consumes fuel too much compared to when I bought the LC. I have been doing the regular maintenance of oil change, injectors servicing etc but the fuel consumes its very high.

last time I bought 30ltrs of fuel into the lc and reset the trip meter to zero. and when the fuel finished I checked the trip meter and it showed 28.7km. which amount to almost 1ltr per 1km.

Note: the cats on the exhaust were not there when I bought the lc and it does not consumes fuel like this. then I have used a full tank of 25ltrs for a journey of over 200km in the past.

I appreciates any response to make me get over this problem.

I would check:
Spark plugs
Clean TB
Clean air filter
Fuel filter.

Additionally I would run seafoam for cleanup the gunk

Good luck

Your mention of the cats makes me think it could be down to your O2 sensors.

I found that when my O2 sensors (before the cats) where starting to go bad my fuel consumption was very high. The sensors did not throw a code until recently and sorting them out helped quite a lot.

That being said I have 35's without re-gearing and drive around with sports mode on all the time to stop the box chasing... (Ive also put a sim in place of the rear O2 sensors and am having the cats completely cut out this weekend for some straight pipe) so I'm a very bad gauge for fuel consumption.

Its pretty accepted though that bad front O2 sensors are going to mess with your consumption.

sorry I mean to type in 25ltrs of fuel for a journey of over 200km. thanks for the correction. and I have a good math skill anyway.

drove from my state to another state of 110km going and 110km back with 1/4 fuel of the tank. (fuel gauge stands at 1/4 level).

I find the only accurate way to measure LPK (MPG in US) is by getting average over many tanks of gas. If you top off tank each time then you'll get a LPK average reading on each subsequent fill-up.

Many things will effect consumption, first is driving style, second is use of climate control (Air con. pump or/and cabin fan use), third is tune-up. It is also key after tune up which includes cleaning MAF sensor, that battery be disconnected during cleaning for 30 minutes to reset ignition system computer.

Your missing cats/o2's will most likely make a difference, but I would assume you'd not see any change since they were always off. This assumption may be incorrect as the reset may change/correct some override that was done in pasted.

Let's start with the basics. Tell us about your Cruiser. Engine type? Mileage? Then we'll talk about the basics of calculating fuel consumption. Always measure distance covered upon completely filling the tank. The fuel gauge in the dash is no where accurate enough to calculate fuel usage. Your statement of 25L/200km is approx 19 miles/US gallon. Unheard of on 2UZ-FE. Now you're getting 2.3 miles/ US gallon? Fuel leak, thief, or bad math...

@ re_guderian, I appreciate all the responses.
My LC 2000 year model vx with engine type 2uz-fe v8 4.7l purchased 2007 with mileage reading of 57,000km + on the dash.

currently the mileage is 173,000km +

all o2 sensors are intact, only the cat back on exhaust is removed. not using aircon for a long time now.

maybe I have to take a picture of the dash to show the accurate mileage when I am back at base since the LC is not with me.

thanks all

Hello all,

kindly see the picture if the dashboard that shows the current mileage of my car.

Please if you can also help show me how to calculate for fuel consumption I will be happy.

thanks

Your odometer is reading in miles, and the gas you get at the gas station pump is apparently reported in Liters.

Convert your liters of gas to gallon before make your calculation of MPG. Worldwide Wholesale Distribution of Valves, Fittings, Tubing & Flanges: World Wide Metric

  1. Fill up your gas tank to the top.
  2. Reset the A or B trip meter of the odometer to zero miles.
  3. Drive until empty.
  4. Fill up the gas tank again, write down miles from your trip meter on the gas receipt.
  5. Make your calculation, by first converting liters to gallons.
  6. Now reset trip meter to zero.
  7. Repeat on each fuel stop, always filling to top of gas tank.

I'm confused, a full tank is a lot more than 25 ltrs. 28.7km is about 18miles and you used 30ltrs of fuel, in the UK that is 2.7ish MPG(UK gallon), I can get 20 MPG on a long run and 12MPG driving around town. I Don't believe you could be getting that bad a MPG and just be worrying about consumption, surely the engine would be barely running with that amount of fuel being pumped in, the injectors would have to be open continuously to be that bad. Unless your a taxi driver leaving it idle for hours in lay-bys.

For information purpose, my tank fills up with 100 ltrs of fuel to the top. so 25ltrs is about 1/4 of the tank.

The fuel gauge in the dash is not used in any part of fuel consumption calculations. It just isn't anywhere near accurate enough. All calculations must be done starting with a full tank, drive, then fill until full again. Even then, the distance driven must be substantial, as a "full" tank can vary based on the pump used, temperature, etc. The dash gauge isn't linear, and the makings are only estimates. Nothing can be done with "a quarter tank". Fill it up completely, drive at least half tank, then fill until full again.

What did your visual inspection reveal?
