Alright MUDDERS...I need your input! Long-time lurker, new member looking to purchase a 08-13 LX570. Budget is $30k. I've missed several so far but am patiently waiting for the right one to come along. I realize I can't be too picky given my current budget constraints.

I'm considering this one unless you guys tell me to run for the hills. It's local and the price is right. Short of it is: 2010 LX570, 122k miles, 5 owners, no accidents, somewhat sparse maintenance records according to Carfax and Lexus Drivers, and a few cosmetic blemishes here and there. Vehicle spent the first 2 yrs. of its life in Maryland and has been in GA ever since. I've included a few pics of the undercarriage (sorry they're so big). Seller is asking $26,672. Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!!!

Nothing about the photos scares me at all. It looks good. If it checks out mechanically, go for it. Top of the radiator ok?

Undercarriage looks pretty damn clean for an 11 year old truck. Better than many, by far.

Haven't seen the vehicle in person yet but will be sure to inspect the radiator. Nothing in the records indicates that it's already been replaced.

Thanks, guys for your input...Keep the feedback coming!!!

Visually it checks out.
The fact that you do not have records or they're missing because maintenance was spiked is the red flag that you should focus on.
Have the truck inspected by a good mechanic that knows these trucks and if it checks out fine buy it.
Good luck!

Nothing looks wrong, go buy it if it checks out in person !

Underside looks good. I'd check under all the engine covers under hood to see if there is any crazy hackjobs in wiring. Look if there is any extra wiring around the MAF (there are bypass kits for failed SIAS system. Not a big deal if it's there, but better to know going in to help negotiations). Also the audio/video in the headrests is aftermarket, so if you see how well or poorly that was installed, another negotiation point. I don't see any in your pictures, but look for pink crust either in the front of the engine around radiator or water pump, and look for pink crust from underneath down back of engine coming off front of transmission (valley plate leak).

Thanks @lx200inAR...good info! I plan on having a PPI, but I just didn't want to go through all the hassle if this had a bunch of red flags. It looks like the DVD's were installed by Lexus.

Is anyone overly concerned by the number of previous owners?

I personally wouldn't pass on a car just because of the 5 owners if there were no other red flags. My 2010 had less miles, but the one you have shown picutres of looks nicer than mine. My vehicle had "4" owners, but by looking at carfax, 2 of the owners were car dealer. Both the middle owners were dealerships that held onto the truck for 6-8m months each. So seems like the lot manager decided to drive the vehicle for a while before passing it along. To me that's actually a good sign, since it means the dealer thought it was the nicest truck on their lot for a bit.

5 owners is not your typical number for these trucks when 11 years old. You are right to be concerned and ask.
The owners question should be correlated with the general state of the truck.
If the general state shows neglect then 5 owners is a huge red flag that should make you think twice about buying it. It means there are lots of problems under the cover that you are going to discover sooner or later and each time you will be reminded that you should not have bought the truck.

But in this case you are saying it's looking good, the picks posted look good to. Then 5 owners is just a fact not a problem as high as that number might look.

The sparse record may just mean the owners did their own maintenance. Nothing wrong with that if they know what they were doing. These trucks are pretty reliable so to assume that regular maintenance was all they needed is not far fetched.

Your PPI would get you the extra peace of mind. You can ask the mechanic to watch for signs of poor maintenance or careless wrenching (missing or broken bolts, retainers, clips, unsecured wires and hoses, cable tie "fixes", rounded bolts and nuts, paint scratches, out of shape brackets and covers, overfilled RTV, badly seated parts and gaskets, nicked rubber parts, wrongly routed hoses and cables, rubbing on parts because they are not in the original position, starches on parts because wrong tools and/or improper procedures were used, loose parts, panels, covers, wrong bolts, nuts, clips used, etc.). A professional or a trained eye can easily tell that stuff once the covers are off and the truck is on a lift.

No issue but I would never buy a 5 owner car. If those owners are in 1-2 years they are losing money.
You will have to ask yourself why 2-4 people chose to dump it for a loss.

Show us the owner reg history and I will tell you what I think. I dont subscribe to carfax but you should have one.

Well, looks like only the first and second owner tried to take care of it and thats about it.
Lexus service also confirms this. See attached. The truck hasnt been properly looked after since 2016.

There are body repairs and a lot random stuff done too.

It would be a hard pass for me but the price isn't bad necessarily. It did start off in MD though, which again would be a pass from me.

Owner 1 was lease (just guess). Owner 2 put bulk of mileage on it. Owners 3 to 4 might be dealer transfers based on mileage shown. Owner 4 drove it for a while then 5 drove it for while. Looks like owners 4 and 5 put some money in it for major services or fixes. Diff for 4 and AC work for 5. I would take it to local Lexus dealer and ask them to due full inspection as if they were certifing it for resale (based on price). If it check out buy it. Note at age and mileage your going to have service work every couple of years for things as they start failing factor that into your purchase. Good Luck

Yeah, that is a tough call. I am not sure what to make of the 5 owner thing, but there could be a lot of reasons for that and not all of them are bad. The lack of service records is way more concerning, but I think others have provided a lot of good advice.

As others have mentioned, I would check for signs of poor ownership. Anything missing or half-finished, signs of leaks of any kind, unusual wear patterns, etc. Often the interior will also tell a lot about general maintenance. A good PPI with a tech you trust goes a long way.

At the end of the day though, you can't know what you don't know, and any purchase is a gamble, even a CPO from Lexus. The goals is to tilt the odds in your favor as much as you can before writing a check.

Funny this car was a CPO at some point and it came with damage to the bumper that was then fixed by a different Lexus dealer at the new owner request. It is in Lexus record attached above.

What I would add to the advise I already gave you few posts above is that you can also take it to a body shop get it inspected. A good shop should be able to spot repairs done to the car even if they are not documented anywhere. A pro eye will see the paint blending, the non-factory paint job, and the small signs of body work, or even worse of frame and body straightening that most of the people can't.
