G'day all

I've got a FJ73 middy with patrol offset rims and 33x12.5 claws in it, and the rear tyres hit on the chassis hard when flexed and its still 2.5'' from the bump stops. So i need some new rims with a better offset, what are people running on their cars? is landcruiser offset enough to give me the room i need or should i get something else? one person has suggested a rim flip, whats the go with this? The picture shows how it sits when the tyres are hard up on the rails.

thanks for any help cheers

Hi Hulsty ,Do you have some kind of suspension lift? If you go with a bigger offset and remove the flares the cops are not going to like those big claws hanging out the side.
ORE sell those wire reinforced strips in 25mm and 50mm and they look ok

Hulsty,

I used to have a pretty much identical set up, except I had 12.5" MTRs on my Patrol offset rims.

With a 2" suspension lift, they used to tuck up very well, but they did scrub the inner wheel well at the rear.

When I sold the MTRs, I went for the BFG MT in a 10.5" width which has eliminated scrubbing. Granted, they may not look quite as chunky as the 12.5" but the travel is better and the slightly narrower section means better traction (well just a bit anyway).

If you want to stay with an aggressive tyre, look into the 32" Extreme Trekker. It actually measures in at 33". It works well over most terrain and will tuck up perfectly.

Where in Oz are you based?

Thanks for the input, the tyres will be staying, i'm not changing them. Suspension wise the car has been lifted abit its sits pretty well. Here is another picture, when it all flat the top of the rear tyre is just below the level of the chassis rail(rear). Surely there are rims out there or someone knows what offset i can use to space the wheels out more, they are currently way inside the flares and even when tucked up against the rail there is room till its on the outer wheel arch. Guess i'll have to keep asking around. P.S i'm in melbourne, eastern suburbs

cheers

thanks mate, but i'd prefer not to run spacers. I've spoken to some other people and it seems i can get my centres cut out and moved or "flipped" to give me the correct offset i need. So i think i'll look into doing that to squeeze them under my guards properly

cheers

anyone else able to help? I took some measure meants today and flexed my car up abit.

The stock middy chrome wheels are 85mm from the centre hub to the the rear lip of the rim and with 10.5 rubber they just rub the wheel tubs on full compression. And once i put in my 33''x12.5'' rubber i've got no hope as they are wider and the rims are 90mm from the centre hub the the rear lip of the rim. So i think i'll need a rim thats 60mm from the centre hub to the rear lip of the rim? Its bloody annoying though because all these people with 7X series cruisiers i've spoken to just put on "stock" wheels of unknown proper offest with big rubber and have no problems or minor rubbing. When i went to a few wheel places the only rims they really had were 93mm from the centre hub to the the rear lip of the rim which would make things worse!

cheers mate

na mate, i just rang a bloke i no there and said i want the biggest offset youve got, had fliped rims there but they would be no good for me with my lift i paid $90each but they are 16x8's so your 15's should be much cheaper unless u go the 10"
