I am trying to replace my shift console, but first I have to remove the shift handle, which has 2 wires going from the OD switch on the shifter through the base of the shifter and to a connector. I was told by some other member that he had to de-pin the 2 pins for the OD switch to remove the shift handle as the connector will not fit through the base of the shifter.

Does anyone know how to de-pin a connector? I tried using a paper clip and no success. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Russell

Can anyone help or look in the FSM which I don't have?

If by shift console you mean the large plastic cover that includes a small cup holder by the dash, then you don't need to remove the shift handle to remove the console. You do need to have transmission out of park though.

Got that off already, but I am replacing the black shift console with P, R, D, N, 2, 1 on it.

The procedure for removing pins varies depending on the connector. You need the electrical wiring diagram manual. It has the instructions with graphics on how to remove the pins. Not really practical to explain without pictures. You can download the manual from techinfo.toyota.com. Will cost you 10 bucks for up to 48 hours access.

first you'll need to look at the top of the connector, there is a "Terminal Reatiner" you'll need to pull this off with a small screwdriver. After this comes off you can remove the pins. The pins come out from the back of the connector. You'll need to use a needle or similar small item, insert it on the top of the pin from the front of the connector and pull on the wire.

Hope you can make sense of all this.

Got it thanks! I used a needle on the front of the conector and there is a little lever over each pin that flips up and allows release of the pin. I am sure glad I didn't get frustrated and try to splice it instead. Worked like a charm.

Thanks again.

Russell
