Here goes. I purchased an 86 fj60 with a howell fuel injection system installed on a 5.7L Chevy. I have very little history to go off of. I am having problems with intermittent stalling. My gut feeling is that the delivery and return hoses may be backwards. Does anyone have a diagram of the fuel tank, that may shed a little light if I am barking up the wrong tree or may be on to something. Yesterday when it stalled I heard a gurgling noise in the fuel lines. There did not seem to be very excessive pressure when I released the fuel cap. One little tidbit of info I recieved from the previous owner was that when the aftermarket fuel gauge reached 1/4 of a tank, it will run out of gas. These are leading me to believe that something is funked up. Any Ideas? Diagrams of proper connections off of a factory tank. Thank you all.

I did pull the aftermarket sending unit to verify it was installed correctly, sooo the readings should be accurate.

Can you get diagrams/instructions from Howell and recheck his installation? That seems like the first place to start. FSMs for your FJ60 are free online, so you could use those to figure out your tank plumbing.

the stock return tube ends just inside the tank, so unless the tank is almost full it would run out of gas.
it really depends on what you have and how it is run.
where is the fuel pump?
are you using the stock tank?
run with the gas cap off?

These plus I would install a fuel pressure gauge to ensure you are getting adequate pressure. Fuel pump would probably be my first start to ensure that it is delivering the proper amount of fuel, then go from there.

The fuel pump is an inline pump. There is a fuel filter a short connector and a new 3/8 fuel line to the throttle body. I can put a fuel pressure gauge inline. Thank you 3_puppies. I have tried running with the gas cap off and the problem still exists. I was not sure how the return line terminated in the tank. Now I know, that is not likely a problem. I am using a stock fj60 tank. Does anyone have any Ideas about a fuel pressure gauge? Have any of you installed one, and where did you put it?

Have you checked the fuel pick up inside the tank. They have a piece of gauze wrapped around it, they can get blocked up with crud.
Can you undo a fuel line in the engine bay and use the pump to see what volume it is pumping at?
