Help with alternator (1 Viewer)

Hello I’m new here I just purchased a 2.2 Diesel engine with a 5 speed for a fj40 project. I believe it came out of a 82-83 Toyota pickup. I’m curious what’s the thing on the back of the alternator with oil in it. Do I need it? Could it be bypassed or taken off? Thank you for any help.

That is the vacuum pump for the vacuum assisted brakes. I don't think it should be bypassed, but what do I know ....
