I have recently purchased a toyota land cruiser and I am trying to learn more about the vehicle. I believe its a 1979-80 BJ series but I am not sure. I live in the caribbean and the person I bought it from had it shipped in from Japan. If anyone knows how I could obtain information on my vehilce I would appreciate the help. I looked for the information on the body, but the information I have found is a little worn. Thanks again

Oh, boy... if only -you- knew more about your Land Cruiser we could be more helpful.

I can tell you that it's not a 70 series, and you will get more direct info in the diesel specific forum.

a 1979 - '80 BJ series could be a BJ40.... it will have a 4 cylinder diesel and a 4 speed transmission.

Try Google.

or

Wikipedia...

Without knowing even the most basic things about your Land Cruiser BJ, there's really nothing much to say.

Have a look on the engine for B 2B or 3B. I forget where it is stamped

Is it the shortest of that body type you have seen? They come in 3 lengths

Have a look through this lot

LC40

And by the way, this is for 70 series landcruisers, not 1970s. You would better off asking the 40/55 series forum or the 45 series club.See the index.

Lots of pics would help.... engine, side view, interior shot, aerial view, blueprints ,finger prints,DNA anything would help even a pic of the VIN plate on the firewall or the stamped numbers on the frame just behind the driverside front wheel towards the front you may have to take a wire wheel to the area to bring them back up.

Pics are best because most of us rednecks are illiterate and cant spell like me.

Ok, here is some info that I found under the hood.
Model Number: K-BJ4 1V-KCYB
Engine: 2B 3168cc
Trans/axel: H41 KO82

I also received a "title" on the truck, but I am not sure how accurate the information will be, but this is what is has:

Chassis No: BJ41 008744
Engine no: 2B56030

Its a 4 cylinder diesel engine. So does this mean its a BJ40 or 42??
I love the truck and have started replacing many parts on it, and when I started ordering more parts they are asking me the Year, make..etc.
I attached some pics if it will help.

.

No ,its a BJ41 like the papers, body plate and chassis No says.
BJ41 have 2B engines.
I dont think they sold too many outside of Japan, most other countries got a BJ40 or 42

The V-KCYB probably means V= hardtop K= 4sp C= swingout rear doors Y= Japanese market B=?(Im guessing it means B type diesel)
H 41 is the type of 4sp
K082 means K=9 inch diff ,08=4.11 ratio 2=2 spider gears

Thanks a ton... I was wondering what all those numbers meant. That fits the truck exactly.

We have been in the presence of the rare BJ 41...

Ha.. Well I live on a tiny Caribbean island and tools are non-existent, so you have to improvise. This happened on a Saturday night before Valentines day. I took it off-roading and punctured the diesel tank so I had to drop the tank and weld the hole. Took me all day Sunday on V-Day. Needless to say I was in trouble even though the girlfriend likes the truck!

It would be very hard to drive the truck if it fell on you . Safety First!
