hope i can make this make sense....i broke my main pinion bearing on my 70 fj40, so i took my 3rd member off and replaced the bearing, i also took the differential carriers off of the axle bearings...im trying to put it back together but am having trouple lining the groves up and getting the carriers back on...do i have to take my axles out and put this thing togeter completley before i put it back in?? or is there some trick to this....im sure i i just confused everyone, cause i confused myself...but if anyone has any suggestions, id appreciate it....thanks

When you say "differential carriers" do you mean the side gears? Any pics?

How did you break the main pinion bearing?

Wait, I think I know where you are...

Yes, you must assemble all, and then puth the 3rd member in, then insert axles.

Have you searched? There is a sweet rebuild by PinHead in the Tech Section:

As well as on the Aussie Locker site:

thanks pablo, the bearing came apart, probably because i just put a sb chevy in, lol. maybe cause its 35 years old also...i was hoping i could get around taking the axles off, but guess not. oh well, back to work, maybe when i get this fixed i can make it a week without somethin braking, at least my dixie air horn still works, lol...thanks again

Do you mean the threaded portions of the carrier?
These are usually a matched set so try not to mix them up side to side.
If they are mixed up you may have grief trying to thread the adjusting nuts back in.
I usually mark one side with a punch before taking the carrier apart.
