Hi everyone. This is my first post so I hope I put the question in the right place.
I own a 105 series with a transplant of HDT engine, manual gearbox and permanent 4x4 transfer case from an 80 series.

When going downhill in either high or low gear, the transfer case kicks out of gear into neutral. Do you know what is causing this?

Pretty scary situation when going on a steep downhill. 😱

Many thanks in advance.

First thing to check is tire size. If they are worn differently enough, it's possible that could be causing this. I haven't had this experience in the 80, but have had it happen in other 4x4s.

any body lift? how are you engine and trans mounts? what about body bushings? i know if the body to drivetrain flex is too much it can knock the shifter out since its hard mounted to the top of the tcase.
