I'm Trying To Replace My Rear Wheel Bearing For My 85 Lj70 But I'm Unable To Removed/separate The Axle From The Backing Plate. Anyone Knows How To This? Do I Need A Special Tool For This Job?

It sounds like it's probably an semi floater. C clips hold the two axle shafts into the axle. Gota pull the diff cover and to get at em.
Might want to get your hands on a Body Chassis manual to help you along.

May the force be with you.

you need to remove the snap ring then slide the retaining collar out with a press and some king of fixture device for the outer bearing housing (SST or homebrew). If you don't have a press you can cut the collar with a grinder but be careful to not damage the axle.
For the reassembly if the collar doesn't slide easily enough try heating it a bit in boiling water so that thermal expansion will be your friend.

Good luck.

Denis,

I got the retainer out now but I'm having a hard time removing the axle from the backing plate. Can I hammer the axle out from the backing plate?

I assume you don't have a press. You can hammer it out but be very careful of not damaging the splines at the end of the shaft. Be careful of not bending the backing plate either. Alternatively you could slam the whole assembly, axle side down on a piece of hardwood on the floor ? As far as I'm concerned I have a fair sized press so I can't tell what method works best. Very often a lot of anti seized and a million little taps go a long way. HTH

Yes, I don't have a press. I tried slamming the whole assembly yesterday but nothing happened. I guess it wasn't strong enough. What I haven't tried yet is hammering the axle. For reassemble do I need a pressing device for the bearing?
