Hi Folks,

I got a cryptic message over on the chat board that somebody in your neck of the woods might have access to airline coupons that I could use to ship my daughter's dog.

We had to leave him in Idaho due to our housing situation in VA, but our housing situation has changed, and now that Liz has leukemia, we really want her to have her dog back--not only for her happiness, but also as a form of therapy.

I just found out that the "home" we found for him didn't end up liking him and he has been in a shelter since August. Anyhow, if anybody can help, we would really appreciate it. Here is a pic of Liz and Rocky before we left Idaho. It is from my phone, so not great quality.

Thanks!
Dan

Sorry to hear about the Leukemia. That's got to be rough all around.

Where in Idaho, to where in Virginia? There are possibly two of us around here that might be able to help. Frankly, my travel benefits are pretty lame. Lame enough that only ONCE has a member of my family used them. But they are something.

I'm sending a PM.

Dan

Thanks,

I'll return your Pm Shortly.

Rocky is in Moscow, but I can probably get him to Boise or Missoula, possibly Spokane. I am in Northern Va, but willing to put in a days drive if I can get him close. 300 miles as the crow flies is about my limit, so NY, PA, OH, NC, and WV are all possibilities. With some notice, I can get out past the 300 miles on the weekends.

Hi folks,

I just got a bid to ship Rocky for 300 dollars via U-ship. This is an all inclusive ground transport service. I called them up and they sound pretty competent. Should I jump on this?

Thanks!
Dan

Sorry to hear about your daughter's health: glad you're reuniting her w/her pup. That was me in chat: didn't mean to be cryptic, but thought I remembered at least 1 pilot amongst HDC, if not a second airline employee.

For $300, you could fly him & he'd be there in less than 12 hours (pending weather). You might even be able to score a deal if you mention that he is your daughters therapy dog...

Personally, I'd rather have my dog get to me sooner, than spend days with someone I don't know [although the kennel situation is already like that for you]. Air flight also reduces the opportunities for him to slip a leash on potty breaks & disappear somewhere in the midwest.

Best of luck, and I'll keep looking for that link about air travel for dogs.

If you still need help, please drop me a PM. I can **probably** pull something off if you have correct paperwork from the vets and the like....

I'll bet your bennies and abilities are WAY better than mine. Our travel department has been "checking on it" now for two days. My contract says I should get a discount there, but my contract says a lot of things that the company doesn't so much pay attention to.

50% off cargo shipments on mainline A/C--Dan's in BOI, IIRC, so, BOI-SLC-ATL-ORF (RIC more likely--can probably be done MD88-->752/763-->MD88/752= one long day.)

Shipping a dog via the belly of an airplane this time of the year sounds is going to be freezing don't you think? If my luggage come out of there semi frozen, what's gonna happen to the pooch?

Thanks a bunch for the help guys. I decided to go ahead and book the ground shipper. The dog should be here by Monday, (pick up Saturday) and the cost will be roughly the same because I don't have to buy a crate out there.

I do really appreciate everyone's help, but the biggest issue was getting Rocky to an Airport. Moscow is in the middle of nowhere, and not everybody can transport 80 lbs of knucklehead on a whim. My Sister would have been Rocky's ride to Boise, but she lives two hours out of Moscow and 4 hours from Boise, so unless it was completely necessary, I didn't want to saddle her with that.

Anyhow, He'll be here soon

Thanks Again!

Dan

Our airplanes have pets only allowed in the forward baggage compartment. Which is temperature controlled along with the passenger cabin. Which really means that if you've got an old grandma of a flight attendant--the puppy would be buring hot!

The freezing baggage comes from the bags being left outside (or in the unheated baggage sort areas). Animals don't suffer such fate. They usually get royal treatment in the employee lounge and many, many scraps of food. ;) At least, that's how they roll in Chicago and Denver.

Glad to hear the dog is on the way. A relief in many, many ways for you guys I am sure.
