I knew i had a power steering fluid leak; however i had so much grease build up i could never tell where the origin was. After degreasing the engine and other areas i found it. Posted are pics from above and below. Can someone tell me what i am dealing with. Can i get a sealant kit or do i need to replace/repair the box itself. thank in advance. I also recommend the beer below while working on your 40.

output shaft seal... Easiest part to fix. Take off the output shaft seal housing and knock the old seal out, install new one. Remove the part of the rag joint that is on the shaft first. What kind of fluid are you using in the power steering pump?

BTW... the Wilco should be Whiskey in US military comms., but I like the idea.

just want to double check and make sure that part numbers 49 and 25 are the ones i need to order. I realize the leak is due to the seal however i am going to replace the rag joint as well. thanks to all who help. I will get #7 as well.

I have search for output shaft seal and cannot find the item by that name. Any vendors know what part I need to order?

You have an opportunity there to orient your steering wheel correctly also, if it's not already...

What I mean is that when driving in a straight line, your steering wheel should have the opposing spokes oriented to horizontal, 3 & 9 o'clock, with the middle spoke vertical at 6 o'clock... If not, when you reassemble the rag joint flange you can rotate the steering column and slip it back onto the splines to orient it correctly... as in the parts diagram... Just make sure your front tires are not turned from 'straight ahead' when you put the steering box back in. It's just the perfectionist in me....

Ok. Yeah that's how I got it already. Any idea as to the exact part I need?

Rock Auto is the only place I know of with seal kits.

I meant that is the INPUT shaft seal (part of the worm gear). Sorry for confusing you. It might also be the pinion shaft, I just never used that term for it.

The seal is part #19 in that diagram. It is not a pinion seal.

Excellent thank you much. just to be clear SOR has it labeled as the SBX lower bear and they are out of stock. Would this be called any other name so I could tell another part store what I need?

My bad. 19 and 20 are bearings. 49 is the seal. I would call it the input shaft seal for the steering box if you're trying to go to a parts store. But for $5 at SOR why don't you make a list of some other things you need (to save on shipping) and get it ordered?
