I recently bought a 1978 B engine
bj40 cruiser . It’s been a tough road. Latest challenge is finding a replacement water pump or rebuild kit. The Toyota part number is 16100-59035. I’ve looked everywhere I know and am coming up empty. I found one place overseas that said they can get me one in 47 days (minimum). Does anyone know any places in Canada (or anywhere) that they’ve had success getting parts for the b engine diesel. Or anyone have an idea where I could find a rebuild kit. Any help would be appreciated. My wife and I are a couple of oldies. We bought this because it’s been on a bucket list for a long time. So far, it’s been a giant anchor. The waterpump appears to be the last obstacle remaining before we can begin enjoying it.

Many thanks.

SOR has them in stock. All the best!

I dunno if the B water pump is the same as a3B water pump,if it’s the same I’ve plenty in stock
I can find out tomorriw

This Australian company have aftermarket pumps for about $45usd. Water Pump suits Landcruiser 40 Series BJ40 1975~9/80 4cyl B 3.0L Diesel Engine (Fits: Toyota) Check they look the same as there are 3 versions
They have 99.9% rating from 236000 transactions and they post overseas. You would have to ask them about postage charges. Most of the items I have sent or received from the US take about 14-21 days on normal postage but they may have express postage if you pay extra. You can only ask.
That part is discontinued from Toyota and I doubt the rebuild kit , if there was one, is still available either.

The SOR part I need is 054-024F-1B-2 . It’s disconinued. Thanks for the response though. If you have any other recommendations, please send.

I have a B engine. Do you know of this one would work with a fan clutch?

It would be best to ask the seller but the one I linked to ebay has a long shaft for the fixed fan. The fan clutch type pump have a short shaft.
The pump with the fan clutch is 16100-59017 for the Australian models and its also used in the Dyna truck and Coaster bus and was still being used until 03. I'm guessing it was used on the 11B which is a direct injected version of the B engine
Its listed as "aluminium".
The parts diagram shows a replaceable seal for $30 hardly worth the repair even if you can still get it.

If you have not found one they have them new for sell here in Costa Rica. We ca help ship to you if needed.
I cannot find anywhere. Can you ship from Costa Rico . Need to be sure that it’s the one for. Fan clutch. The Toyota part number is 16100-59035.

Please let me know how to pay you and I’ll provide shipping information. Thank you so much for your help.

Are you positive your B engine uses a “fan clutch” water pump? All the bj40’s I am familiar with here use a fixed fan and no clutch. I replaced mine and several others last year on a 72, 76 and 77 bj40 b engine. Can you send me a photo of your current water pump?

The ones they sell here are from Japan and great quality.

And to add, I have a garage in Costa Rica with many B parts as we restore and modify them here.

Here is a photo of my water pump I added last year. I do not have a fan attached to the pulley as we add electric fans to our builds but the pump should be the same for your B engine.

He does need the one with Fan clutch as that is what I took off of it. It is at my place right now and I am trying to get it back together for him. We have on hand right now the one from an earlier model B engine and the shaft is longer and the mounting place for the pulley / fan is completely different. We also have on hand one from a 3B and it has the correct length and mounting for the pulley but it has a place on the far left of it where there is another hole on the back of it to mount to another part of the front of the block.

Todd have you called Radd up in Canada yet today ?

Could you use the non clutch fan pump & just add an aftermarket 6 or 8 blade radiator for now? You could get the truck running for now & then just do a leisurely search for the right pump down the road. It would mean doing the job twice, and some extra expense, but it would also get the truck running right away.

That is an option I talked with him about. Would have to find a pulley and fan but could be a doable option forsure.

Australian models of the same year used a fan clutch, so there are probably other countries that also used them. Or maybe a PO decided to add one.
Pump part number 16100-59017. Put part number into google and it shows a few options.
The pump is available from Australian dealers but its dearer, about $140 AUD.

So. To close this out.

I pressed the pulley off of his old pump and took the new water pump and pressed the wrong for his application pulley off and pressed his old one on making it work as it should.

So I took the earlier model B engine Water pump and made it work with a fan clutch which we just got a new one of those also.
