I know some may be thinking; "just look for the big rubber plug in the bell housing". I wish it was just that easy.
So I'm in Nicaragua, and the majority of the Toyotas are diesel.
There are tons of R151's to be had for very reasonable prices.
Most of the turbo diesel Toyota's have the R151f like the 1kz or kd engines, but the Diesel engines bell housings don't have the easily identifiable rubber plug.
In my truck I have a 3L motor with the G52, so to put a R151f I need a L series bell housing. The only solution for that is find the 2L turbo which had the R151 behind it. However that is a rare engine here.
Here's where I need help.
I have a guy who said he has an entire setup off a 2LT. What worries me is that it may be a G52, off the non turbo L-series.
So how can I tell them apart? Is there some outward detail that easily distinguishes a G52 from a R151? A measurement or bolt pattern?
Help a transmission noob out.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
