I keep hearing this noise, kinda metal chatter when going slow over cracks in road or small bumps washboard, only when going slow do I hear it, I searched but finding a thread on a similar noise is like trying to find the source of the noise. Any sugestions on what to look at will help

Mine too. Driver side, sounds like 2 washers clinking. By time I focus on the noise its gone. I only hear it once over 10mph, so kinda hard to have someone run along and listen. Ive checked the springs, shocks, tie rods and parts I don't know the name of of unfortunately. Just have been underneath checking nutz & bolts. I keep working on mine I keep hoping one day Ill find whats loose.

I am not sure but check the spring that keeps your brake pads from chattering. I am not sure but on my 92 I have a spring that fits over the 2 pins on the caliper? my 2 cents.

Mine did this for a while and i finally realized it had slipped off on the top. Drove me crazy for about a week.

Thanks!, I'll check that out.

mine sounds bigger than springs on brakes have had that happen on other rigs. I tightend washers on shock bushings, still trying,

One thing I double checked was the washer on the shocks (post OME lift install). Some thread here there was mention of accidentally putting one on upside down causing the the noise.

This is an excellent suggestion and one of those things that is easy to overlook when trying to pin down the source of a noise.

My similar noise was from the cat convertor's heat shield had one of the welds break and would vibrate under certain conditions making a metalic sound.....

Tis noise ended up being the control arm bolts frame side were allowing controll arms to move back and forth. I retourqued them, and they lasted a month before loosineg back up. I will try locktight or maybe double nut.

What did you torque them to?

If they are coming loose, the bolt is probably stretched and you need a new bolt and nut. I would not use locktite myself, as it changes the torque spec (it becomes a "wet" spec instead of a "dry" spec, Toyota does not provide numbers for wet spec).

I believe it was 130 as thats what it took to get the brackets to compress enough to make the control arm stop moving back and forth. the bolts the po used are plenty long and once they back off so far they dont appear to go any further. I will get new bolts and try them.
