This is a part from the emergency brake on an '81 Fj40 passenger side rear drum brake. It bolts to the backing plate and a hook sticks through. The emergency brake cable connects on the back, and inside it connects to the cable that actuated the brake.

Does it have a name?

This one has a cracked housing and is all seized up. Can't find a replacement based on my description. I'm hoping one of you might have a name to put to it to aid the hunt.

Any ideas?

Bah, photo won't upload due to size. I'll link one in a bit.

Welcome.

It is the e-brake lever bell crank or pivot bracket.

Aluminum/pot metal garbage that corrodes to the steel lever and renders the e-brake inoperable/or locked on.

Thanks! Now... To figure out where to find a replacement. The usual O'reilly/Autozone were stumped.

Probably still jave them at the dealer. Should be the same as the used on the 60 series. Those were imported in much larger numbers so good chance they are still available.

Thanks again. Local dealer can get them. Spendy... But I can get it.

Got all my parts... Now I'm just not sure where the return spring for this crank hooks to. Any chance someone has a schematic, or a photo of where it should hook up?

Afraid not. I can see that the spring is there... But not where it actually attaches to the shoe. I'll just make a close guess. Can't be too far off.

Thanks though. I appreciate your help

Ok! Got it. Documenting here in case anyone else gets lost like me.

The return springs hook up on the back side of the backing plate... Out where the e brake cable connects to the crank. One end in the remaining hole on the crank, and the other end in a little hole on the crank guide on the back of the plate. There should be two return springs per side.

I'd upload a pic, but I'm already over my limit.
