I m on my way on a 2 week vacation and my friend said that something was dripping from my engine.

It is diesel fuel leaking from what I think is the timer on the side of my injection pump....has anyone ever had this happen? Is it an easy fix? Possible side of the road repair? Explosion risks??

Any help would be appreciated

Timer? The ACSD maybe? If so you should be able to source a blanking plate/o-ring and a hose to loop the coolant fairly easily.

Pic would help.

Well since we don't know what pump you have makes it a little hard to tell you. If it is bosch ve pump and you are talking about the timing advance it could be a quick fix but could be a cracked advance housing.

The factory diesels are all bosch/denso VE.

Most cities will have a diesel injection shop that stocks gasket/seal kits for common injection pumps. Even if that pump wasn't ever sold in the states, it probably shares the body and dimensions with tons of stuff that was, and therefore they'll likely have a gasket kit sitting on a shelf that will have the parts you need..

I found a shop in Houston that had a perfect gasket kit for the denso 4M40 pump I brought in from the UK... and it was cheap.

Here is picture of where diesel is dripping from behind that coiled up spring

That's the ACSD. Most owners remove them as they tend to fail and send tiny shards of metal throughout the pump. If you do a search in the diesel section you'll be able to find some relevant threads.

Any diesel shop should be able to supply you with a blanking plate/o-ring.

Thanks so much for your help little piece of mind is nice. Is there any point in me trying to take it off to check to see what's wrong with it? Or should I just take it to a shop?
