That makes sense that the top hinges are different, but what about the bottom?

Have you checked the direction the hinge pin is inserted? Should be for the top. That would be the only difference I can think of.

Should edit this to say the lower hinges are actually the same. The pins are inserted from the same direction. The top hinges you cane determine by the pins.
