Finally tried to tackle the intermittent P0401 code that has plagued me for years. Started with testing the VSV, which failed. Decided to remove the VSV without pulling the TB or intake manifold, per a few threads outlined here on mud. I got the old VSV and bracket out and was preparing to mount the new unit in a more convenient location when I decided to take one last look under the intake to make sure everything was clear. I noticed 4 hoses hanging free with what appears to be a broken 4 way connector. They were either like this before I started or broke/disintegrated when I was twisting the old VSV around to get it out. I took a look in the FSM and can't seem to find their function. Two appear to be attached to hard lines located just to the left. Not sure where the others go. And I assume I will need to pull at least the TB to get in there and fix them (exactly what I was trying to avoid :bang: ). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to say what happened, look at the diagram on the inside front corner of your hood, shows how the vacuum lines go. You might as well just pull off the TB and upper plenum so you can get a good look at everything and do it right. Only need to once every 20 years. Don't mean to sound like a sales man but I have a full set of oem vac lines I can sell you cheep, I just ordered to much. PM me if your interested.

Looked at the diagram and couldn't figure it out. Want to make sure it's just vacuum hose and not something else. And thanks for the offer, but I am already prepared for the unexpected :grinpimp:

Ok, pulled the throttle body. One hose is from the TB via a hard line. The other is from the vacuum control valve, also via a hard line. Per the factory diagram, both should be headed to the TVV. That's probably what the other two vacuum lines are that I see. One plugs into pipe J on the the TVV. The other into K. Why would they be hooked into a 4 way connector to get there? Does this sound right?

Can I just direct attach the two lines to the TVV. If so, does anyone know which one goes to port J and which one goes to K? Or maybe it doesn't matter?

I'm pretty sure the tvv and hardlines are in line. The rubber pieces between shouldn't cross each other.

That's my thought too. I'm going to route them exactly as the factory diagram has them run, no connector in between. I have no idea why that 4 way was in there. I had my top end rebuilt about 12 years ago with my HG replacement. They could have put something funky in there.

I followed the diagram and put everything back together with the new VSV in a much more accessible location. The check engine light is gone. It went off after a few drives today. Problem solved!

You should still come by next Sunday!

For sure! I'm still going to try and make it for a little bit Sunday.
