Really!? The hilux is only 1 1/4? Augh. guess i'm going back to Gregg's tomorrow

1 1/2" but buy both the 1 1/2 and the 1 1/4 to be safe, return the one you do not use...

In other words you don't know ;) well I guess I'll have to take a look, as I am planning to make my own

I hate those cast aluminum thingies. Very wasteful design, lots of heat irradiated outside. Plus they are very low wattage. No, I'm going to build one. Plus I want to be able to heat the engine in 15 to 30 minutes and not have to plug it in all night wasting half the heat to the outside air while it tries to bring the coolant to just above freezing.

Chris,
you are right, i am not 100% sure. I am only 95% sure hence the suggestion to buy both...

Paradis,
bring your truck over and i will give you a hand.
BTW, i found them cheaper at Auto Value on 52 street than at Greggs even with my discount.

tell you what, i have to install one in the white HDJ81, i will measure the inside diamater just for you.
i am concentrating on the new web site (www.ivoac.ca) and fighting the government over the proposed change. the size of a lower rad hose heater is not top priority in my life right now...
sorry for bothing to try and answer your question.

woah, that was weird, hah my name is Chris Paradis, so both messages stood out.

I'd like to come down, but i i work close to 12 hour shifts and wouldn't have the time, i'm gonna give it go tonight cause its suppose to hit the low 20s by the weekend. Probably go buy the other one and return which ever it isn't
thanx for the tips

You've been very kind and very generous with your time and that by itself is much appreciated :)

Like I said, I'm willing to help with 'the fight', don't be shy.

If I get to the rad hose before, I'll post the specs. When I get my prototype heater done I will certainly post about it as well.

Chris

i and you both know we all like watching a new project take shape...

please do post up pics...

Hey thanx for the tips guys, i got my rad hose in last night no problems. A little tough to get that valve open to drain the coolant, but other than that she works great. I'll have to post a pic sometime here or atleast on my avatar.

Cheers

I had the same problem with my Safari. When I did get it opened, it come out a little too slow for me (little 1/4 " tube). So, I popped off the lower rad hose into a big plastic bowl (big enough for about 15 L). Then flushed everything out real good. Only problem is that since then, I had to do a water pump and the lower rad hose (yesterday). Just glad it went at home and not on the Hope Princeton the night before. I just don't have the patience to wait for that little tube to drain the system. Rads should have at least a 1/2 - 3/4 brass drain valve and a tube on it to drain them easily.

By the way, now with your inline heater, you can probably get by without having to buy the OME lower rad hose, as you can swivel the two sections on your inline heater. Two short hoses at $20 did me just fine and saved me about $55.;)
