Blue sky in Rupert!. Beauty of a truck, good luck with the sale.

Nice truck, It should sell fast, considering how much some other people are selling theirs for, and do not have all the goodies you have.

Cheers.

Thanks, Yes we do get sunlight when its not raining or overcast for 200 days of the year. It was pretty warm today. Shorts and t-shirt by rupert standards.

I seriously lucked out with this truck. I am a bit reluctant to let it go. 1 owner who got a bunch of good goodies who drove it to the golf course and back.
I just talked to someone else who imported one with lockers without all the goodies I got in the same body condition and he paid 18.5 grand for his after all the base lining stuff. I figure I could get that for mine if not more. Someone who is looking for a nice one will. An arb bumper isn't that much. Someone could have a turbo diesel expo vehicle!

Cheers.

So when does your HZJ77 land? What toys will it come with? How long did it take to find? I'd trade an HDJ81 for an HZJ77 in a split second too. Nothing wrong with the HDJ81 but the HZJ77 is a sweet rig with those beaut 70 series lines.
No 77 yet. I don't have money to play with until this is gone. I am on the auctions daily though just reading what comes up. This landcruiser took about 6 months to find. I gave my exporter criteria:

Under 120,000kms
Must have Lockers
Must have Factory Winch
VX Limited Trim
5 speed if possible but i knew not to hold my breath because of the options above. I have only ever seen one.
Swing out Tire carrier.

My exporter found about 3 or 4 of them but he didn't buy them for me because he said they were rough around the edges and he knew they wouldn't be right. I jaw dropped when he showed me what he bought for me. It was lifted and on 33s already for me. I was super happy.

I just got back from my Victoria trip and I really appreciated the truck for the really long highway drives. The cooler is sweet for the beverages. and the truck is really comfortable. The 70 series it a bit more rough around the edges but when I think of a landcruiser, I think of a 70. I grew up with one and its just luring me in. The 77s are too cool to ignore.

The 77 will be a 5 speed (H55F) with factory lockers. I am going to try and get a 4B with under 100,000kms or 120,000kms because I know its going to be a very hard find. If I find a 96 thats in super shape I would gladly buy that and wait until its legal. Drive around my dads parked bj70 and do some work on it with him. I would love to get one with a winch but I don't really care, I have a 8274 to use. Manual with lockers is the main thing.
The 77 will be kept for awhile and I will put some kms on it before I let it go. I plan on keeping it for years to come.

theres usually about half a dozen 77s that come up every week.
its hard finding them in good shape because there a work truck.
but they do come up. Nothing really this week. A couple of grade 3.5s with 150 plus kms.

I would gladly work something out if the person who wanted it was from a land far far away.
Anythings possible.

What's the purpose of the PCV oil catch can? You are going to find the 77 a bit of a dog after driving an HDJ :). Good looking dog though....

The PCV Oil Catch can is a filter that catches your Positive Crank Case Oil Fumes. If you look at your crank case theres a hose going from it to your intake right after your air filter.
Now Oil vapour goes through here and will coat everything along the way (if you have taken apart your turbo piping you would see it). Oil too will sometimes wheep out of the seals and will grease up your turbo. This can give you the false sense that your turbo is leaking and needs a rebuild. After getting the turbo looked at I realized that wasn't the issue so got one built up. It keeps the turbo clean for better monitoring.

As for a 77 i know its going to be a bit of a dog comparing to the 81. I am tossing up the idea of turboing the 1hz and maybe intercooling it. Depends on the money situation. I can live without the turbo though. In landcruiser standards my dads BJ70 is a turtle with a max speed of 120kms. You can barely get enough speed to pass on the highway. His new 73 is a rocket ship and doesn't sweat a beat. I truly appreciated the turbo after my trip down south and that will probably be the thing I miss most off that truck.

I think Jonathan was indirectly asking if there was a blow-by problem.

You are right that there is always some oil mist in the PVC. PVC cans can be a must have with MAF sensors in modern diesels getting plugged up.

I wouldn't say theres a problem with it. It honestly catches very little in the course of an oil change but it keeps the turbo looking nice. It was put before checking out my turbo because I wanted to see if there was anything leaking from the turbo. It kept it clean and that helped rule out that my turbo was ok.

I didn't think there would be any problem. I think catch cans are a great way to keep track of engine health.

The HDT is a bit of a blow by factory as well, according to our friends in Oz...

I know someone who imported one recently and he hasn't done a single thing maintenance wise to the truck. Hasn't touched any fluids or done his bottom end bearings yet just to give you an idea. Hes got a lift and lockers on the truck. Just to get it legal it cost him over $18,000.

Nope, I was just wondering what the can was for! I don't have one on my HDJ and was wondering if it was a good thing to install.

I think there a good idea. Make sure if you get one with a Baffle inside. You want it to separate oil from the air. A large number of the ones on the market are not baffled inside.

I made my own catch can out of a compressed air filter, and I can see why they need baffels. I thought oil would fall, and the fumes would rise. That's doesn't seem to be the case. there's a lot of turbulence going on in there, and oil is still getting picked up. I modified the filter too, and that cut the oil getting through in half, but needs a bit more interference, with out hindering flow.

Ok this is a rough cross section of what my catch can looks like on the inside.
I used aluminum for the outer casing. The two orange things are the fittings.
Down the middle there is a piece of aluminum plate that separates and forces the fumes to go down and around the plate. Though at the bottom of the plate there is a bunch of packed stainless steel pads or s.s. wool. The steel acts as a filter so oil vapour can condense and collect. The black thing at the bottom is a drain. I had a drop come out after my trip to down south. I have checked the outlet pipe going back into the air inlet (pre turbo) and i don't see any sign of oil. So the thing must be doing the job. My turbo hasn't gotten oily either:)

Hope I explained it well enough. This catch can has been getting attention.
