HDJ81 Engine Part Question

What is this part circled in red? There is a lever on it that can go left and right. There is a very very small text/sign and an arrow as well.

What should be the position of the lever? Should it be set all the way to the left <----- or to the right ---->?

I was detailing my engine this weekend and I might have tripped over the level. Now I cannot remember what was the setting before? So I put it all the way to the left. Things seem ok for now.

Thanks for the quick reply. What exactly does that valve do? Is that valve "controlling" hot air? or controlling the flow of coolant?

Also,
Lever should be in Left position if I want my rear heater fan to blow how air?
If I don't want hot air, I put the lever in Right position?

btw - I live in the tropics - we don't have a need for the heater.
