Hey Folks,

Noticed my driver side power window is quite slow and has slowed a bit since the weather turned cold. It is in fact much slower than those on the other windows, and I wonder if I'm not headed for some trouble, with winter setting in.

Any ideas? How does one get to remove the interior door panels on these vehicles? Same as on an old BJ60? Want to make sure I won't bust anything, it's just too nice :)

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Chris

go to the 80 series section there are some good write ups on this problem...

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the subtleties of the search engine, came up with a bunch of useless posts containing the word 'power' and the word 'windows'. There is a way to limit the search to titles only ;)

Being on duial-up really, really sucks big time. I HATE BELL CANADA, they want a minimum of $15,000 to connect us, claiming they will have to bring in a line from a nearby town. Truth is, we've had fiberoptic on the telephone poles since 1998 AND we are only 100 feet away from the local central, but it's much more profitable to use that bandwidth it for lucrative phone service... I simply laugh when they claim telephone service is not profitable... Yeah right, we pay very dearly for it!

Thanks for the heads up, Wayne, wish you weren't so far away and I could come up for a visit, it sure is lonely here out in Quebec with an HDJ81...

get satilite connection and sell to your neighbours to split the cost??

I get that problem every time it rains here. I think it's just the window channels absorbing moisture and squeezing the glass in the process. However, you can try spraying some slippery stuff in the channels and I think it will give you relief for a short while. You can also open up the switch and spray it with electric contact cleaner and hopefully, if corroded connections are the source of your problem, that might fix it.

As for your internet connection, I second the motion for a satellite. I hear it's a lot faster than cable or DSL.

Thanks Kalawang and Wayne...

The satellite problem is bandwidth and time restrictions. We have to pay for BOTH here. It's NOT a flat rate. I would have gone that route already if it was so simple. For $60-100 you get 60 hours or so a month last time I checked, with severe download limits. NO UNLIMITED, it's typical nickel-and-dime stuff. Plus uploads are very, very slow. What's the advantage...

OTOH, if you want service typical to what most people use broadband for, be prepared to pay more than $200 a month. Even then, you are limited in upload speed. No thanks. I'll have to pester and mutter to myself for some more time to come, I'm afraid. All the people I know who were on satellite and really needed broadband eventually bit the bullet and paid the telco's ransom in the end (no kidding, it's really around $15,000) to get true upload and download speed.

I'll see what I can do with the power windows in the next few days. Thanks for your advice :)

You are with the wrong satellite provider. Xplornet gives you unlimited connect and 50 or 100 kbps upload depending on the package.

Thanks - but for basic service at $79 the upload is still 50Kbits, or about 6 KB - Not much better than dial-up at 5.6, so for me it's not that much better and certainly not justifiable businesswise. I would need uploads as fast as downloads, for that satellite communication is simply not doable. For now it seesm my best solution is still to burn a CD and send it Expresspost.

On top of that, the equipment itself costs a fortune - Simply not cost-effective!

BTW I am in the US for Thanksgiving and am getting my 90915-30002 filters for less than US$10, compare that to THIRTY-SIX LOONIES locally!!!

I've always said we pay way too much for everything here in Canada, and I reiterate it, I see proof of it eveytime I visit the inlaws in Maine. I ALWAYS pay for my trip with the savings I make buying stuff here.

BUT, we can get these wonderful JDMs here after 15 years, and the Americanskis have to wait 25 years ;)

Now you ozzies don't rub it in!!!
