I'm posting this over from the 80 series section to see if we can get some help offered.

Diesel crank but no start

Hi all, I have a HDJ80 24 valve manual which cranks but won't start, I have been searching far and wide for an answer with no joy. Any ideas? The immobilizer has been removed, which strangely was wired to the starter, and the ignition fuse has no power, although it still won't start if I wire...

Check primer, primer should get stiff with a couple of pumps otherwise she is sucking air towards tank.
If fuel is good try to disconnect the fuel solenoid on injection pump...one wire.

You can also crack injector lines slightly to make sure fuel is getting to the injectors, have someone crank her over while you look for fuel and not air and fuel bubbling out.

I think these have a fuel cut solenoid like the 1HZ. The simple test is to turn the key to on and you should hear an audible click as it opens. If not try running a jumper lead from the battery direct to the solenoid and listen for the click. If you hear a click it should start.(this is how the FSM says to diagnose or fix it)
If it had some kind of immobiliser fitted, they may have wired the fuel cut solenoid into the circuit.
