hey all

I own a 1991 into which an hd-t was transplanted.
the motor mounts are shot (one gone, the other suspect).

Can anyone out there confirm that the rubber mounts are the same part for the 1991 fj80 as they are for the hd-t80?

I can get them here in a month, or from the USA in a little less time, but either way I've got to prepay and they aren't returnable, so I'd like to get it right the first time (they aren't cheap).

Thanks!

I think I saw some on ebay the other day for one of the diesel Toyota engines for an 80, I can't remember which one though. They are probably still on there so you might take a look. I remember from the picture they looked like the mounts in my FZJ80 I just took out. Might be the same.

Ill check EPC tonight. Im pretty sure they are different as the 2F/3F appear to be the same and they are thinner rubber that seems to have more stiffness as well.

They do appear to be very similar to the 3B BJ60 aftermarket mounts sold by SOR and others.

They are all over ebay - roodogs will ship them anywhere.

Different part numbers in EPC for 3F / HZ+HD / FZFE engines.

I know its not that much help for your original question as the others may work.

any help is good help

I looked at a buddies hd-t (factory) last night and it looks like the mounts he has are really similar to mine, but not the *same*. I did notice that the torn mount on my pass side seems to be upside down- that is, the "cage" portion is on the bottom (frame side) whereas I thought it belonged on the top (motor side).

Regardless, the one obvious feature that the mounts have is a big "H" molded on the rubber.
I don't know if that is molded on the F-series mounts or not. Headed over to another friend's house to look at his 92 fj80 in the hopes of shedding more light.

Stay tuned for some photos.

got this from an email from Sheldon:

91 FJ80 (3FE)insulator is different than a 1HD-T insulator.
HDJ80 insolators are # 12361-17011, same as 95 up FZJ80 Same for Left and
right.
This is assuming that when they dropped the 1HD-T into the FJ that they
welded the correct 1HD-T frame brackets onto the FJ frame.

Can't really see the motor mount clearly enough to read the part number on my truck, but it looks an awful lot like it says "xxxxx-17040"

The tranny mount is positively 12371-61050 in case anyone needs that number. That's for a 5spd. Not sure *which* 5speed!

found this online, the pass side mount look pretty similar...

I seem to rememeber comparing the 3F mounts against the 1HZ mounts when I was doing the swap in my 73 series and they were similar but not useable.

A few more pics here but only for 40/60/70 series diesel and petrol

I would order the proper mounts at roodogs ($55 ea)and ask for express airmail. It only takes 4-5 days to the Americas(plus the local post office handling time)

I think that going through roodogs is a good idea, I just want to make sure that I'm ordering the right mount(s) before I have them sent half way around the world.

These three pics are from 1992 HDJ80 series with 1HDT. The rubber mounts look similar but are not the same also the rubber mount from the HJ75 looks similar but is not the same. The Oz drivers side of both are hard to take a picture of because of access. Note with the 1HDT, I have the gearbox out of it at the moment and the engine is not exactly on the angle it normally is, just a slight difference. cheers.

Thanks!
Though I'm still screwed.... neither the fj80 nor the hdj80 mounts that you photographed look like mine! :(

I think I'm going to take it in to a local mechanic who is well known for working on Toyotas. Maybe he'll reconize something or have access to some different mounts to look for similarities.

Tomorrow I'll get back under the rig w/ an external flash and see if I can snap a decent photo. It is tough with an slr, wish I had a little point n shoot to fit in there for a close up.

These are the two vehicles the engine mount pics were taken of this morning. I would be very surprised if anything was different apart from the back doors on the HJ80. cheers :beer:

well.... the truck started out life as a USA fj80. Some time ago it was imported to Costa Rica. At some point, the motor died and someone decided to plop an hd-t into it. The hd-t came out of a 93 cruiser, I've been told.

Seeing as how the install was done in Costa Rica, they could have used virtually any motor mount! I'm inclined to believe that they would have used one from an 80 series, but could have been gasser, HZ or HD-T (or 2H for that matter) and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

If I could just read the darn part number off of the mount that is there! I'm leaning towards pulling the mount off and checking it out. I'll have to reinstall to go get parts (this is my DD) but.... it wouldn't be much more work than the hour or so I spent today trying to get the part number, and looking at a buddy's cruiser, and all that.

From what you have said just now LOL I think you better pull the rubber mount and get the number and also measure it up. On both Oz models it would take 10 minutes to pull the passenger side mount,RHD here. Can't see why yours would be any harder.

yeah, I'm headed to a mechanic to get my starter checked anyway. I'll bet I can pay him about $10 to pull/reinstall the rubber. Then I can walk over to a parts store and see if they can match it. Got my fingers crossed!
