Have you turned ECO mode off? (1 Viewer)

I turned off the indicator as soon as I bought the vehicle. I hate unnecessary dash lights, and wish I could turn off the Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Departure Alert lights.

Per my 2022’s owner manual, the light is indeed only there to indicate when you’re driving “economically”. There’s no real eco mode, so no throttle or shift changes. The only way to really have a “drive mode” is if you have the Luxury trim with the adaptive variable suspension.
Don't know about lane departure but BSM can be turned off via steering wheel menus on my 2014. Weird they would remove that for 2022.

The only ECO I see is when I scroll through the options with the right steering wheel (thumb) lever that shows the outside temp, front wheel alignment, MPG, etc.
It does have an ECO screen with a bar that shows how you're driving, e.g.: the bar extends towards or away better MPG, depending upon driving.
I'm driving a 2013.
Go to Settings then Meter Settings

Aaah!, I don't have that on my 2013 Premium, does not have LDA, BSM, PCS (and the rest of the alphabet), nor do I have dynamic cruise control, which I really, really wish I did have!
I think all that come out in 2020 or 2021? Acrad would know for sure. It's when they changed the screen on the center console.

To clarify, I believe the feature can be turned off, but I'd like for the feature to be enabled without the dash light being permanently on. That may seem like an unreasonable request, but for some reason I feel like those indicators interrupt the gauge cluster (especially for a feature that you probably have on all the time).

What year did ECO mode become selectable?
2010. It is a "nanny" light that informs you when you are driving under the most efficient conditions. No effect on performance whatsoever. You can turn it off if you are tired of "green" propaganda. I get 16.1 MPG mixed driving on 32"s. Not worried about fuel economy in the slightest.

Yep, got it. I laugh at an ECO light on a 6K lb V8. I guess there was still some uncertainty about a "mode" (that actively changes the throttle mapping, HVAC, etc) versus an "indicator". I now know that I can turn off my "indicator" light, but that has absolutely no effect on MPG or any sort of efficiency. Man, I put a Pedal Commander on there specifically to override the crappy factor throttle mapping. No actual ECO "Mode" on these rigs it looks like. The PC has it and on on ECO mode there it can be dangerously slow to accelerate. But I run my PC on the Sport or City+ setting for more vroom vroom...

Agree that it would make more sense to have a "BSM Off" indicator in yellow, instead of a bunch of green BSM, RCTA, etc etc

The ECO light is like the old school light and gauge of yesteryear on some vehicles… or upshift lights on manual transmissions

It relies on your foot to save fuel

There are no engine or transmission mapping changes

I get 14 on a good day. Most of the time 12 MPG. My light stayed on always. no way it was telling me I was driving efficiently. i never put the display on where it was a graph that showed when you were in the zone

If I'm on the highway, with a tail wind, going down hill, holding my breath, going into an aero tucked position behind the steering wheel, I can squeak by at almost 15 MPG, on 35" tires, built as a very heavy overlander with roof top tent.
That's from what I read from the MPH on the binnacle and then adjusting for tire size.

I'll jump in with my experience here. On my base 2018, I don't think there's a way to disable the ECO light on the dashboard while in Drive. But there is a big difference in shift points and speed by moving the shifter to "sport". I hate the slow lazy shifts at 2k RPM when in D, so I always bump the shifter to sport and then upshift to 6th. This way it'll run through all the gears needed, but will actually downshift on inclines and hold gears longer while accelerating. Once at cruising speed in overdrive, it makes no difference at all, so the only change is under load.

My wife hates the snappy shifts in sport mode and has complained about my driving habits as a result. Again, I'm in "6" so I'm not manually upshifting, just using the more aggressive map from sport mode.
I’ll have to try this, she drives our GX 99% so not a big deal but I hate the lame shift points.

Mebbe you just always drive it like you stole it... 😂
Nah, I baby my girl. I only do WOT about once a week to "clean it out". LOL

I do need spark plugs however. I'm almost 70k over the suggested change interval. I feel a slight hesitation at WOT around 40-45mph.

A little off topic, but a vehicle where you NEED to worry about the ECO light is any V6 Honda like a Pilot or Odyssey. A bypass is highly recommended as the ECO mode on a Honda V6 will cause cylinder sleeve rotation, excessive oil consumption, and eventually fouled spark plugs and a misfire.

I think cylinder deactivation on basically every automaker is a concern IMO

At least the old V8-6-4 (368 / 6.0L) from GM in early 80’s was generally seen as a good motor as long as you deactivated the cylinder deactivation

I think Eaton played a role in development if memory serves me right
