Thinking I'm gonna sell my Arizona '65 fj 45 lpb. Work has been slow, recession hanging on here too long. I have a lot of rigs, but this would bring the most money, and we use it the least. I guess I will put it in the classifieds here, but I of course want to get the most I can. Where is the best place to sell it? CL? Ebay (I don't have an account) Search my build not sure if it's this club, or the larger fj 40 series. Called 'late thursday or early friday' back about 2007 or 2008. Been always stored indoors since and has less than 3000 miles since. Factory new 2f longblock from '76 as well as 4 spd and t-case. 33 950 15s, all metal is very nice. Factory PTO winch. You'll see it all in the thread. Not desperate, just want to clean up some debts and long term plans as retirement years loom. Thanks, Gary

I feel your pain. Here's your thread:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-club/197372-late-thursday-early-friday.html

If you're not desperate or in a hurry, I'd just throw it up on here first. No reason not to duplicate your ad on CL as well, that's easy and free.

I've not sold a vehicle on Ebay, so no experience there. I think that's your best bet for getting top-dollar, as long as you get a couple interested parties to bid it up.

I think just picking a fair price and putting it for sale here is the least bit of hassle...if it's priced to sell, it'll go quick. If you price it towards the top of the market, if may sit a while.

Good luck,
Dan

I agree eBay would probably bring the most of the three. Not sure how much the fees are thru eBay if it doesn't sell. You could put it in with a high reserve and get a feel of what the market is. Put on mud with the best price you figure it would bring then put OBO.

How was your other FJ45. I think I saw it at Landpimp's house back in 05. It was a nice FJ45 also correct? Pretty lucky to have found two nice 45s that didn't cost a arm and a leg. A third might not happen so I would think long and hard if you really want to sell it. Why not sell a few other vehicles. More vehicles sold means fewer to insure and maintain. Of all the vehicles you have if you regretted selling which would be the hardest to replace. I'm not sure how upset my kids will be when they find out I'm going to be buried in mine.

I just got off a fj45 search and found one thank God! Looking at 45's for the last xxxx months I think you should pull 17-25 for it. That is if all metal is clean. I'd get a headache rack for it before selling it. I think of the American 45's 65 is the best and most desirable year. Shame you have to sell it.

I agree, Ebay will get nationwide exposure and top dollar.

Set reserve high and see what your posting stirs up.

Best auctions sell with great pictures, good descriptions, or links to your build, etc.

I am going to sell my 68' 40 this spring, to finance my next build, so I understand needing the $$$.

Funny, right now it doesn't seem a shame to sell it. I am in my early 60's and the no power steering or brakes is actually getting to me. I LOVE the fj 45s, and encourage you to look at the 'late thursday' thread. I just did for the first time in 5 years. That thread is a pretty good description of the truck. Tailgate still needs some work, no rust at all, just the cut outs at those dumb PO tail lights. I could do it, but other priorities are around. Like I said, not desperate, just that I never drive it. I have only driven it twice since I put the roof and doors on in the fall. My wife and I used to go on day trips in it on good summer days, never a roof or doors. I have never driven it it the rain. The wipers motors never got put back on after I re-did the windshield! They sit in a box. The 45 is the coolest rig I have, but also the one that could bring the most money. Once I sell it, I will still have an enviable stable of vehicles without the high interest short term debt. Funny what happens when you pay some bills with credit cards during lean times. No worries about losing house or anything serious like that, but I guess my dad was right years ago about saving for retirement. What gets me here is that even some of the guys who have pm'd me about wanting the truck have told me I shouldn't sell it.:) I promise I'm not pulling a trip on anybody about the price. I am an honest and sincere person and will let you know. Of course I'd like the range mentioned above!

If it is hard to drive it make sense. Guess I'm lucky I still enjoy driving these old things which is what I planned for retirement something I was able to do last year. You might want to post a link to "late Thursday" thread. Was this a thread you started? Any threads on that 79 FJ55?

The are a number of shops doing full resto's and charging 80, to 100,000 for an fj40.
Granted they have polished very bolt galvanized or powder coated the frame but seeing as 45's are pretty ''Rare'' go for the upper end in pricing and as they say... if no response raise the price and sell it.
on another note : looking forward will you regret selling it ?

I know about those shops. They are selling something different than me. Mine's a good ol cruiser, all Toyota, old school, lots of rustoleum primer under lots of good oil based paint. Nothing is powder coated or anything like that. As far as missing it..... I really don't think it will be a problem, but I appreciate all the concern. I have had my '79 fj55 since about 1985 or so. All of my 4 kids learned to drive in it. It has chains on all four corners all year around these days, and is pretty rusty, but it gets us up and down our mountain road, come what may. I have something like 10 other trucks, my favorite right now is a '59 F350 with a 9' pickup bed and a cummins 6at coupled to a gm sm465. I built it from 'found' parts. Tornado Alley, are you listening? I have seen you on old posts along with Royal Rose about those old UPS truck engines. I have another on a running stand. Ok, I'm getting off track. Gonna sell this '45 and be in the clear!

I don't know how to do a link, but if someone will put a link up, I would appreciate it. Also I must have had some posts in the 40 series forum because I remember when I found out the engine with no serial numbers was indeed a NEW engine from toyota like the original owner said. It came from a one owner fj40 bought new in Michigan by Frank Koral in 1976. Frank claimed this 40 always smoked and burned oil , so in 1980 he had a new 2f installed at the toyota dealership at 100,000 miles. Later his son took it over, but it was rusting badly and parked at 123,000 at which point I bought it from the son, Bill as a donor. Someone asked if it was drilled for power steering and yes it was , so it's that new engine.

PM sent

I like your truck, it is even in my perferred color. I sent a PM regarding price, but no reply in two days. If it is easier you can email pricing information to michaelbb7@juno.com

Thanks,

Just a tough here. Back in '07-ish, I was at the beginning of a major kitchen remodel and my mortgage company yanked my Home Equity Line of Credit due to 'market conditions'. I literally just had 2x4's and plastic sheeting on the back third of our house. No kitchen at all. (hard to get financed when the your upside down and you don't have a kitchen)

I called up my credit union and asked if they could help me out. They asked if I owned any vehicles...I said yes, I've got several, but they're not worth anything. I told them what I had and they looked up 'classic car' values on them. The said the '65 FJ45 was worth $15k, '73 FJ55 $10K and the 95 80 series $8k. they gave me a secure loan for $15k, ( I gave them the titles to my vehicles) interest rate was reasonable. I had enough cash to get the house back together and finish the remodel. Then I was able to get my house refinanced and got my titles back.

My point is, you might be able to use your 45 to secure a lower interest loan and pay off the short-term high-interest stuff and still keep your 45.

Good luck,

Dan

Dang you guys are killin' me. Maybe i should keep it just so I stay in the 'club'! You are a good bunch. My property is 1/2 way to paid off, and I still have some good room on my line of credit. I could write a check from the credit line and pay the high interest debt off, but then I'd owe that much more on my mortgage. Been trying to get my mortgage as low as possible so I can retire someday. I have been self employed for almost 35 years and raised 4 kids through college. Now I need to start the savings program. It's hard to explain how little I drive the 45 these days. My dd is a t100 with a flatbed (and a nice radio), my 'go to' driver for trips to town seems to be the cummins powered '59 with it's big roomy cab, easy steering and real heater. I will still have my fj55, fj60, bj60 and a host of others.

If you insist, but it's kinda like hijacking one's own thread. Back to the lpb tomorrow, k? Maybe with a price, no less.
