Has anyone used the RetroSound S-62 6-1/2" 2-way speakers in their front doors?

I just a few months ago installed a RetroSound speaker in my LX450 because the passenger OEM speaker was shot - no cutting required, you can retain the factory speaker grills - follow Crutchfield's instructions EXACTLY, or you will damage the door interior trim (the black 'garnish', specifically)

speaker works fine, cost was totally acceptable, and Crutchfield instructions were key to success

incidentally, Crutchfield specifies the same RetroSound speakers for a Miata, so I had already installed them a few years ago in my little  car when those speakers crumbled :D

Hi @DSRTRDR do you by chance have a copy of the instructions? Curious what it actually entails and Crutchfield won’t share until post-purchase.

I would recommend skipping the retro sound speakers. Their peak watt is super low, I blew both speakers. Look for a speaker that has a depth of 1.5” and you should be fine; I upgraded to marine speakers. Pyle (cheap brand and sounds 100x better).

I mounted these in the front:

You have to enlarge the hole but no spacers are required if you mount them on top of the door panel. Hertz also sells a cover that has the old school mesh look and fits in this location too. Mine are still black because I don't mind how they look but if you painted them to match the interior most people would not notice they weren't stock. They sound excellent.

Hertz now has a few other offerings with a 2.0" overall height too, even a component system for those that want that.

yes, I have the instructions - somewhere . . . give me a few days (feel free to send a private message to remind me)

they specifically point out how to remove the door card without damaging the plastic triangle inside window trim - that is important with any speaker install where you need to loosen or remove the door card
