Has anyone installed a keyed lock on the passenger door of their FJ40?

I got to thinking that instead of crawling over the seat to unlock the passenger door, it sure would be nice to have a keyed lock there.

It dawned on me that since there are right hand drive FJ40's, perhaps it's possible to retrofit a lock setup from a right hand drive, and then key the tumblers the same.

Has anyone tried this?

Late model 40's have a keyed passenger door:idea:

I have owned 3 different ?J40s and they all have had keyed locks in all 3 doors - both front doors use the same key as the ignition and the ambulance doors use a different key. I've never seen a cruiser with no provision for a passenger door keyed lock. Take the liner off the inside of both front doors and see if you can see what's going on. It should be possible to do as you said and get door lock keyed to the other lock.

I have a "71" 40 and have no keyed lock on the pass door. I would love to have a keyed lock on the pass side. If there is a way to retro a keyed lock I want to know about it.

I would just like to have a key for my drivers door :D

Pirate's down again  , so I can't check your link Manny. Is that Dustin's thread, cause that's what I was gonna reference.

I'm getting closer to doing mine on the 45. A guy came by on Thursday and gifted me a slimline power door lock solenoid that he had just successfully grafted into a 71FJ40, so I'm gonna go all out and make the passenger door a power door lock model while I'm at it!:grinpimp:

yup, Dustin's thread is currently experiencing some technical difficulty :(

pirate's up now...link works :D

Kewl. Thanks for the link!

Yes, basically right side just inverted inside door.

Works great, I had a local locksmith key all my locks to coincide with each other.

waiting for my silver star approval to post more pics, ran out after these last two. I have one more that shows how the backs of these early style interchange easily. the first set are ignition and my two fuel doors, second set is front doors and rear lift gate
