I was scrolling on Instagram and came across an account with a beautiful FJ60

melkvintage

and after looking at his posts I noticed a plastic cap/cover right behind his front bumper where the valance and the fender meet!

Dang I almost said they are not oem

It was also an early German ( FRG ) spec.
FRG was Germany before the wall came down in '89..
Some kind of safety issue/item as i always have understand it.
Great for creating more rust........

Forward mudflaps I thought.... but maybe the Germans were trying to make this truck more aerodynamic???? LOL

Gotta be from some weird European highway requirements from the Cold War era...

That my be the connection with my truck. Although I’m sure it was originally purchased and has remained in California the previous owner was German. When I bought it there was a sticker with the German eagle on the lift hatch.
