I need help hooking up some wires.

Someone before me had the coil non-OEM with a condenser, then I acquired a slightly later (4/75) coil and igniter. From the harness at this spot are a black/white and a white/black. Where do these go? Why does the igniter have an open connector on a black wire on the engine side?

Here is a yellow/white that was simply dangling from under the dash? Maintenance interval detector?

What in the world is this,? There is too much green and red to be anything on the wiring diagram?

Here is green/white that spurs from the harness under the glove box. It is like an 18 gauge and there is a heavier green/white that is on its way to the passenger horn. Note, this is a section that was mouse damaged, so if there was a tee, than I may have missed it? The horn relay on the passenger fender is connected as I think it should be.

I can only attach so many files, but there is another green/white bullet connector at the end of the turn signal/horn sub-harness that looks like it was never connected based on the amount of dirt and oxidation. Any clues where it goes?

Also, where do I find the fuel sender yellow/red in the harness? Where would I find the yellow/green water temperature sender in the harness? Where in the harness is the idle cut solenoid?

Pic #1: The Black/White wire is the ballast bypass wire. In an OEM setup this wire would attach to the +side of the coil. It's purpose is to supply the full +12V to the coil during starting. It requires the OEM starter with the ballast bypass function built in. Look down at the starter area ans see if a matching Black/White wire is attached to the starter. If it's hanging loose then the starter does not have this function. The White/Black wire grounds under the mounting bolt for the coil/Igniter assembly

Pic #2: The black wire is for a noise filter capacitor. If you listen to AM radio, and hear ignition noise then you can plug a noise suppression cap into that wire and ground the case of it to help prevent it.

Pic #3: Yes that connector goes to the pulse generator on the back of the gauge cluster.

Pic #4: Sure looks like your headlight switch connector. Is it a 6 pin connector?

Pic $5: Green/White is used for the Brake Lights and Horns so check those circuits.

The Green/White wire at the end of the turn/horn sub-harness is a left over. It is not used on your truck.

There is a three pin female connector under the dash between the heater light and wiper switch connectors. This contains the water temp (Yellow/Green), idle solenoid (Black) and Emissions temp sender wires (Black). A three pin male connector plugs in there and goes out under the hood to attach to those three things.

Hope that helps!

Coolerman nails it.

The fuel sender wires route from underneath. It comes out of the rear framerail harness near the reverse light connector, then is clipped to the bottom of the floor and comes up into cabin along with fuel hoses. It goes on top of gas tank, before cover is installed.

The Yellow/Red wire is accessible at three places. On top of the gas tank as Jim described, under the hood on the passenger side firewall rear chassis harness connection, and at the gauge cluster connector.

Here is how it routes: There will be a harness coming from under the truck (goes to the gas tank and rear lights), up the firewall to two connectors. A 4 pin and a 2 pin. The 4 pin connector will contain the Yellow/Red wire. From the 4 pin connector, that wire goes to the 12 pin round connector that plugs into the back of the dash gauge cluster then on to the gas gauge.

If your gas gauge is not working go to this thread before you do anything and read all about how to trouble shoot it.

Thanks for the help. That is quite valuable information.

There are two black/white wires headed in the direction of the starter. A big one and a smaller guage.

Pic #3 for the pulse generator. Do I have the right gauge cluster?

The connector was attached to this screw-on green/yellow connection when the 40 was delivered.

hey Dizzy ,

the screw on thing is a Indicator light socket and retainer housing

ODD it has a 2 pin nylon connector ?

i am only 94.20 % certain that it would mount on a bracket under the dash and say EGR on it ?

but never the less thats what the parts above are

where they go only @Coolerman or @FJ40Jim might know that answer for sure

good luck brother ................

Pretty sure Matt is correct on the light socket being for the EGR. Here is a pic of a 1975 that shows the EGR light mounted on an "L" bracket under the dash gauge cluster to the left of the steering wheel. It has bullet connectors in the pic.

You have the right gauge cluster. Just plug that light socket into the two pin connector you showed above with the yellow and white/black wire. If you want to know about this light does See this thread . You may be missing the maintenance interval detector that was in line with the speedometer cable. Again see that thread about how all this worked.

So the wiring diagram described the carb solenoid as red/yellow. Coolerman described it as black, and it does have conductivity to the engine slot on the fuse block.

Can I assume that the fuel sender is yellow/red? And approximately where does it join the main harness?

Black or B/Y. Definitely not yellow or red in an OE harness.

Yes, the actual sensor wire is Y/R. There is also a ground wire that travels with it, terminates in a ring terminal.

is there a source for the lights?
i have the housing, but the pig tail or bulb portion.

hi brian

i have your needed Socket , please stand by for photos

would you like LED

or

Old Skool Incandescent ?

- if LED , what is your Lens color we are dealing with ...........

- if you pass on the LED option for some reason ..............

well, u might be regretful for the foreseeable future ........... 🦄 :wrench::wrench::wrench:

red...and led should be fine.

Ok , SOLD !

you chose wisely .....

Now ,

Since you happen to have the luck that I am quickie
Custom tailoring your real time live ....

Please explain in detail what end Connectors you require ?

- 2 male BuTT. Terminals

-or

- 1 female butt and 1 Male Butt

Or a late modle 2 pin .250 aeries , 6.3mm
Housing like the one in below example pics

i have seen all 3 combos. So it’s your call ....

It’s called TEq freedom of choice build spec. S

🤔

I would confirm what u have existing and match that exactly !

Anything would be PO .....

Holy Cow !

this little bastar#. Is Sick killer kool Bright !
