That is just a ground wire. The most common spot is the main engine harness, at the top if the pic, after it goes through the plastic cover, goes to the engine, and past the EGR pipe.

Wrong direction. To the drivers side of valve cover. Under vac module. This pic show one thats in process of being wrapped but still not a good overview

@Kernal your pics better

bingo

Edit: ^^^ beat me to it:
But here's another photo (copied from a different thread) of the harness that gets too hot from the EGR pipe nearby.

thanks man. appreciate it. so that is coming from between the egr valves and whatnot? pretty much between the engine and the firewall? does it travel over to the driver’s side of the engine as well i guess per the pics i found above...

arg. never mind. i should be able to nail it tomorrow...THANKS

I’m pretty sure that’s the factory wrap.

You posted a picture above with a large red arrow. That red arrow points right at a mounting tab that should have a plastic bracket holding the wire bundle away from the egr tube. (You can see the plastic bracket in kernals picture above) In your picture that plastic bracket is missing. Those brackets become brittle and break causing the wires to contact the metal egr tube then they abrade and the wires burn. I used a zip tie around that mounting tab recreate the bracket and pull the wires away and hold them off the egr tube. You may want to use wire or metal exhaust ties. But the most important thing is to keep the wire bundle from contacting the tube.

Reviving an old thread.
Does anybody know the part number of the clamp that holds that harness down (Post #7 red arrow above). Sure I can put a zip tie but figured I would see if I could get the factory wire clamp. I looked in the parts manual but the clamps are really difficult to decipher which goes where. Mine disintegrated and I have been using a zip tie. I think it's pretty crucial to keep it away from the hot EGR pipe. Let me know if I'm not in the right section of the parts manual. Most of these are still available from japan

This hasn't been available for some time, and I need three of them. Thanks for making me look it up again!

Sorry, wrong clamp. But you probably need that one anyway ;)

The part bolted to the head is

To the best of my knowledge, there was a zip tie there:

FWIW, none of my 80s have the tie, but they do have the unused metal part, and none of them appear to be worse for the wear. This really doesn't do much to keep the harness off the EGR, the insulation does that.

Thanks for recommending the clamp against the firewall. This is broken on mine and needs replacing. The clamp on the head on the LX450 diagram is actually part number 8271160150 and is available direct from japan, but if it's just a glorified zip-tie I'll just continue to use that. I already replaced the heat wrap last year when I replaced the rear heater hoses.

I try to do 1 big project a year for the 80 and this year it's the valve cover gasket and all the vacuum/water hoses underneath the upper intake. I currently have it apart and doing my mid project purchase. Which no matter what I do I always have to buy something I didn't plan for. This time it was the brake booster hose, it split when I took it off. Always pick some extra items - Got to make that shipping worth it :).

I'd add the spark plug tube seals, while I had the valve cover off.
