Im just starting to tackle the mechanical issues on my 60. One thing I noticed while I was looking for leaks and whatnot is a bit of crankshaft pulley play. Ive been reading up on the issues and from what I can gather the rivets that hold the thing together separate over time. The front portion of mine seems to run true its just the back portion that is a bit misplaced, there arent any weird grinding noises or anything as of yet. Im a bit wary of driving for long periods as I know the damage that could take place, im actually kind of bummed as the motor was rebuilt by the PO and overlooking everything it seems as care was taken in reassembly and it only has 700 miles. Only mods I know of are de-smog, headers, shaved head, and rv-cam.

Ive sourced a used pulley from cruiserparts.net and new key + nut for just under $200 all together. How much would a new pulley cost and where do I get one? I would hate to do all that work come to find it has the same issue a month down the line.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

New pulley PN: 13470-61010.
It'll cost you a bit over $600.

A very good source for new parts is MUD member "Beno"

Send him a private message ("conversation" in mud parlance)

$600??? Is it made of unobtanium? Alright I know someone here has a 3d printer or knows someone that wants to make a batch of 10 aluminum pulleys...

Ill try Beno, ive ordered something from him before!

oreilly's, Autozone, etc can get an aftermarket HB under the Pioneer brand part # DA-65. Under $300. Where it's made, dunno, could be Oz, could be China, but same HB is sold under a couple different labels.

If you can wait, I personally would send to the link Doug720 provided.

Any wobble is a time-bomb waiting to happen. And if that HB lets go at highway speed, you're looking at a whole lot more possible things to fix and pay for, possibly including a replacement engine if the crank is buggered badly. I have seen the horrible results of this exact scenario a couple times now, on trucks where the owner's were going to get to it 'next week' ...

If it were mine, I wouldn't drive it until the HB issue was fixed.

Good luck.

welll s***.

after trying to track down a "squeaky belt" forever, i finally noticed that my HB was wobbling.

guess i'll be pulling it this weekend and sending it out for that rebuild.

glad i caught it before it let go

This company can rebuild your balance for less than the used part, and it will be as good or better than a new one.

Worth a try?

Emailed Dale back and forth probably half a dozen times, he's never done an FJ60 HB before.. but he has done an FJ60 and he said "another toyota inline 6" so i'm going to give him a shot. he's going to see if he can help me out on mine. I'm most concerned not about the rubber but the rivets, and whether or not he could repair them where the generally separate.

i'll report back with how it works out.

Thanks for doing this, I was about to begin the discussion with Dale. Looks like you will be a guinea pig. $155 + shipping?

yes he quoted me 155 plus flat rate shipping.

Just wanted to follow up on this and report back that Dale at Dale at HBrepair.com is a great option for those looking to fix or refresh an older HB.

my rivets were starting to loosen up, and the rubber on mine was pretty shot. he fully rebuilt it and tack welded the rivets on both sides of the HB.

i think my total cost was ~ 200 bucks with rebuild, welding, shipping etc. and the part works well.

Cheers

Pix?

When my HB and pulley parted ways I weighed all options and decided to go about repairing it this way:

1. Punch out the broken rivets.
2. Drill and tap the HB for bolts
3. Install Metric grade 10.9 bolts and nuts
4. Tack weld bolt heads and nuts to HB.
5. Tack weld the pulley to the HB.

Runs true and cost me maybe $10 and a little time and effort.
