Yep, changed the Dodge Durango's oil today and noticed that there was about an inch of really hard deposits on the dipstick. So hard I thought it might have even been a plastic coating. Never noticed it before. Oil seemed fine, no excessive smell or metal particles. Checked under the oil cap and all seemed clean up there as well. Have 95K miles on it now and have always changed the oil every 3-5k miles.

Wonder if maybe the dipstick was replaced with a crappy one by the previous owner........I hope so!

Thoughts?

I already scraped it all off. I will be moving to synthetic oil from now on. Thanks.

I Dont know about now but Valolone almost left a waxy substance after so many miles and the damn stufff would clogg every damn passage. I had a straight six do the same in a ford that was not mine.
