I've tested my glow system and it specs out as per the FSM. I've disconnected the temp sensor now and even with a full glow it will not start unless I give it a slight touch on the gas pedal. If I give it a bit more than a slight touch then it starts and revs up way high and smokes quite a bit.
All the posts I've read about this say that theirs fire right away as soon as they have a bit more glow. Why would I have to give it this shot of fuel for it to fire mine up?

Mines the same. It needs fuel on start up when cold. I use the hand throttle so I don't get the variance of pushing the peddle to hard and flooring a cold engine.

Once started I let it rev at around 1000rpms to warm up faster.

I would get a compression test done and the injectors replaced. Maybe your fuel pump also needs some looking at.
Start off cheap.

Mine woud start straight away with a non functioning glow system, but in warmer weather than your experiencing.

I do exactly the same.

Mine need to preheat after a hole night ( or nights ) without running .. 12 segs .. fire up and start fine, smoke ( cold ) at 550 rpm aprox .. until ti warms up and reach the 600 rpm
