took my PZ77 up to Kelowna this weekend, decent mileage (about 8.5L / 100 KM) but i was lightly loaded.

so, i've been pondering turboing my 1 PZ. It's got about 75K KM on it, and runs soild.

thinking about this :

given that the 1PZ maxes out at 4500 RPM ( never push it past 3250). it should be OK.

other than that, i guess i'll need a different injection pump as the normally aspirated one likely won't do.

thoughts and suggestions here?

That fuel consumption is way less than what others get, which is around 12-14 per 100.

You can use the existing pump,it just needs the fuel turned up a little.
AXT make a turbo kit for the 1PZ

Where will you get a 5cyl injection pump from anyway?
My father told me that old marine diesels were often built to accept different types of inj pumps but I have only heard of 1HD FT pumps being put onto 1HD FTE as far as landcruiser diesels go

You DON'T need a different injection pump but you DO need a pyrometer if you plan on adjusting the fuel at all.
When I turbo'd my '82 BJ60 it had nearly 400,000kM on it and the factory fuel setting on the factory naturally aspirated injection pump was just fine. I have since had the truck up to over 13,600 feet in Guatemala and I can say that the turbo is worth it!!
Pick up the book "Maximum Boost" for a good turbo lesson. It's geared to gassers but the principles are the same.

good point about the injection pump. . .

as for the ATX kit and others, i'm considering this based on a turbo availible to me for a very good price from a friend.

it's intended for a Supra, but the displacement may compensate for the reduced RPM

i went with the merkur turbo for my 3b based on feedback from others, also a lebaron turbo or d50 mitsubishi turbo is supposed to be about the proper size for my 3B. what is the displacement on yours and have you heard what turbos others have used for your motor. Im sure theres probally some aussies that would know. Also i have heard that the supra turbos are too big for 3b's and would have to be at way high rpms to spool up but it could be the right size for yours, i dont know.

A 1PZ (3.5L) is virtually the same displacement as a 3B (3.4L). Higher red-line in the 1PZ, plus peak torque is a bit higher too, I believe. But you really need to do some math and look at the turbo maps...

If it is off of a single turbo Supra, it is way too big - sized for a 3L engine with a 6K+ red-line.....If it is one of a pair (off of a twin turbo Supra) it should be pretty close to the right size to made boost down low in a 1PZ...

i'm not sure exactly whether or not it's a dual or single turbo.

That's why i posted specs hoping that some turbo guru could jump in and shine some light on the situation.

The numbers for a 3B are 0.42 and 0.48. That's significantly less than you have noted.
